All materials provided. All welcome. No prior knowledge needed. What? OUTPOST will become a generative space for discussion and the creative imagining of futures. This event will comprise of: 1. A short film screening of Speech for a Melting Statue (Collectif Faire-Part, 2023) and Boots on Ground (Kiran Kaur Brar, 2021), followed by a discussion that considers the nature of representation, and the relationship between the structural and the subjective. 2. The presentation of archival footage from recent histories of riots (Tottenham, 2011) and protests (Worldwide, 2020) 3. A creative workshop that calls for imagining the future as a strategy for survival in unprecedented times. You are invited to find a moment of community, indulge in utopian proposals, and consider the radical potential of all art forms as part of the struggle for equitable futures. Films: This bespoke programme of films that have toured international film festivals consider colonial histories, the residues of anger at the murder of George Floyd in 2020, and experiences of racist policing. The discussion and workshop that follow will use the films and select archival footage as common ground for equal participation. Where? Miranda Mungai is a film curator, events producer and facilitator with an interest that lies at the intersection of sociality and moving image. OUTPOST invites submissions for an evening of music, sound, performance, and works in progress from our members. OUTPOST is a non for profit, volunteer run charity. Any and all money raised is put back into the charity to continue our charitable aims of providing opportunities to emerging artists, the promotion of arts education and the provision of affordable studio space. Drinks and snacks will be available. When? The Christmas Fundraiser Party will take place from 6pm on Saturday 9th December at OUTPOST Gallery Who can apply? This opportunity is open to OUTPOST Members. You can become a member for £25 via our website. We welcome all artists, writers, curators and creative practitioners. What are you looking for? We are happy to accept submissions including but not limited to: performance, music, poetry, spoken word, sound, works in progress. To be able to accommodate a range of work, we ask that proposals are for performances of anything up to but not over 15 minutes. There is no set theme, we invite artists to use this opportunity to share pre existing, new works or works in progress. We are happy to accept submissions from collectives/ groups. LAST WEEK to see: COMFORTABLY UNCOMFORTABLE, the debut solo show of Ingrida Bagdonaite (@ingridabagd) at OUTPOST Gallery. "I don’t believe our memories are stable at all. They constantly change and rewrite. It is a construct that is alive and changing. For example, I have this memory that I fell when I was about 3 years old while grandad was looking after me and from that fall I got a scar on my knee. My mum however clearly told me that the scar is from different occasion from when we where building our family home and I tried to lift some bricks and fell and split my knee open then. You see I don’t remember that at all and my mind simply chose to pick that memory to make associations with that scar on the knee… the painting in the end represents the set of ideas, a feeling and becomes abstract for me when I think about time and where it sits. At 6:30pm we will host a screening of Comunismo Futuro. In this film, storyteller Franco 'Bifo' Berardi guides us on a journey through the 20th century, beginning with the Russian Revolution of 1917 and ending in the contemporary day. "Drawing from the Italian archives of the Workers movement, Istituto Luce Cinecittà and from sources of contemporary media activism, director Andrea Gropplero, in collaboration with Paolo Marzoni, has composed a film in which marks of the 1920s Russian Vanguard, Futurist animation and Cubist imagination intersect with the proto-punk visual poetry of the 1970s. The YNAC Mixer is a chance for you to meet like minded young creatives to collaborate with, develop your personal mission statement, and meet industry professionals working across the local arts scene. No matter your art form or where you are in your career, this is a chance to build on realationships for a career in the arts. 11.30-12.30: We will kick off with a relaxed workshop that brings you together with young creative peers to develop your ‘mission statement’, outline your artistic intentions to present to industry professionals and potential collaborators. 12.30-1.30: Industry professionals will arrive and you will get the chance to ask questions about the creative industries, present your mission statement and recieve feedback. OUTPOST invites applications for a public education event to be held at OUTPOST Gallery for Black History Month as part of the gallery’s programme. The event will be to engage the local community with Black History Month. We are happy for this to take the form of a range of activities (including but not limited to: poetry, readings, music events, lectures, workshops, arts activities, performances). Budget We are able to provide: a fee of £275 and a £100 budget for accommodation and travel as well as technical, logistical, and promotional assistance from the OUTPOST Steering Committee. The Opportunity Proposed Event Date: Saturday 14th October. Applicants can work in any medium or field (art, writing, academia, self taught) and no previous facilitating experience is necessary. Support and feedback will be given.
