The curiosity of the humpback calves is surprising. They come close and sometimes even into contact although most people respect the distance of 30m between the animal and themselves. As a reminder, a calf weighs up to 1.5 tonnes and up to 4m. So respecting the distance is not only for the animal privacy + well-being but for your own SAFETY !!! About to breathe and go back down for a little nap 😴 Whales do Unihemispheric sleep. But what is it ? Humpback whales are known to take up to 30min of sleep underwater. Sometimes you can see them coming up to breathe with one eye closed, they shut down one side of their brain and then go back down to continue their rest time.
