GOTHAM NEEDS YOUR HELP! 🚨 As you all know, the repercussions of the pandemic have been vast. Gotham Roller Derby, NYC's only flat track roller derby league and founding member of the WFTDA, has faced innumerable setbacks in an attempt to rebuild. Because of your generous support over the past few years, we've been able to host a few mash-up games, deliver some paid programming for both adults and juniors, and even engage in some interleague play. If you live in NYC, you know how difficult it is to find affordable real estate (or, frankly, any real estate). Add in our very specific spacing needs and you can imagine that our space search has been very difficult. Despite all this and many other setbacks along the way, we have found a new home for Gotham — but we need help now more than ever. In order to secure this space and pay for the necessary construction costs it needs to be functional, we need to raise $600,000 in a very short amount of time. This space will benefit more than just the denizens of Gotham — other NYC skate groups will be able to rent out the space to use as well, bringing more access to roller skating in the Brooklyn and Queens area (more info on this is forthcoming!). We’re excited to announce our next session of Basic Training is now open for registration! If you’ve always wanted to play derby but don’t know the game playing fundamentals, or if you’re starting from square one when it comes to skating in general, this is a great course to take (and it’s taught by seasoned pros!). Please follow and read the statements from @teamindigenousrising and @blackdiasporaderby (linked in our story) about the 2023 Battle of the All-Stars tournament.  Gotham has skaters as participants on Team Indigenous Rising and Black Diaspora Roller Derby this year, and has been a part of Team New York as an original participant in BOTAS since its start in 2012. We stand by our teammates and all our fellow athletes on Black Diaspora Roller Derby and Team Indigenous Rising in recognizing that the treatment of the borderless teams at this tournament has been unacceptable.

If there’s one thing you should know about Gotham, it’s that we love our @gothamjeerleaders! If you’ve been wanting to become a Jeerleader yourself, you’re in luck! Tryouts are happening March 5th, 2023 at 2pm sharp in Midtown Manhattan (RSVP to get the exact address). Tryouts are free! @gothamjeerleaders are all-gender, body-positive, dance squad who cheers on Gotham Roller Derby at our home games. Tryouts include learning & performing a few minutes of choreography. After dancing, there will be a casual introductory chat. Wear clothing & shoes that are comfortable for dancing.
