The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has released a report today. Scientists are crystal clear: global temperatures is still rising and it is due to human activity. This will lead to stronger, more frequent floods, heat waves, intense raining, fires,... literally existential threats to humanity. All of this is not new, what is new is that it’s going way faster then we thought. We have all been witnesses of the direct consequences of climate change this summer, and it’ll only get worse. We need to unite on the streets again. 10/10, we’ll see you there!

While the world is reporting about the Olympic Games, the bakermat of it - antique Olympia in Greece where the torch is being lit before the games - is threatened by a big forestfire. Greek authorities have asked for civilians to leave the village. This summer the world is either on fire or it’s being flooded. Heatwaves are occurring everywhere and ice sheets are melting faster than we ever predicted. This is climate change in action. We can not normalize it or get used to seeing it, because it’ll only get worse. And there’s no time left to waste. We will see you on 10/10 in Brussels to March the streets with thousands of people! After everything that happened and is still happening this summer it is again clear that our politicians - do not - have things under control, but the climate crisis is here today. And we need pressure. Lots of it! We will see you on the streets on 10/10 to fire up the streets of Brussels and show that we will not back down as long as the crisis is not treated like a crisis and our future is not being taken seriously

Here we are .... July 29th 2021. Over Shoot day. One month earlier compared to last year 🥺 We have used all the natural resources the Earth produces in one year! From today onwards we live on credit ... How do you want to find a balance that will allow us to face climate change if each year we break records of destruction of resources ... #overshootday

Climate change affects the intensity and frequency of rainfall. Warmer oceans increase the amount of water that evaporates into the air. When more moisture-laden air moves over land or converges into a storm system, it can produce heavier rain and snow storms. And that's what we are currently seeing in many places of the world. After the deadly floods in Western Europe, now China is also experiencing extreme floods, causing people to drown in subway stations and tunnels while entire houses and infrastructure is being sweeped away. This extremely heavy rainfall has caused widespread damage and led to 200,000 evacuations. This is only 1 of the many deadly consequences of the climate crisis. We can not live in a world like this. BUT, we can change this. The power lays with the people. And the people demand for our leaders to #FaceTheClimateEmergency

Over the course of this summer (and it is only mid-July) we’ve witnessed the ocean being on fire in the Gulf of Mexico, an extreme heat dome over north-America and massive floods sweeping away cities in Western Europe. These disasters are not natural, and they cause hundreds of people to lose their homes and lives. Our politicians keep hiding being their far-away 2050 targets as if we don’t need action RIGHT NOW. We can only hope these disasters force them to stop minimizing the climate crisis and finally #ListenToTheScience We will be watching you at #COP26!

This is the climate crisis in action. Currently, Belgium, the Netherlands, France, Luxembourg and Germany are being hit by extremely heavy rainfall and floods. Entire villages are being destroyed. Hundreds of people are being evacuated by emergency services. All IPCC reports have for a long time been predicted that global warming is projected to lead to a higher intensity of rainfall throughout Europe. Extreme weather will occur more and more frequently. Our thoughts are with the victims and all those who have lost their homes due to the extreme weather events such as droughts, floods and heatwaves this summer. A lot of gratitude to those who are working in the rescue operations. Foto : Bruno Fahy

Today we joined a strike together with more than 3000 people in Venice to protests against the #g20summit. It’s time for our leaders to get serious about the future of our planet. According to the World Health Organization, climate collapse causes about 150,000 deaths each year. According to the Global Climate Risk Index 2021 report, in the last twenty years 475,000 people have lost their lives due to extreme climatic events, which have caused a total of about two trillion euros in economic damage. Delegations from G20 countries are responsible for 75% of global CO2 emissions (Climate Transparency Report 2020). The negotiations on these summits today still prioritize profit over people, and that needs to change. #powertothepeople

In a new survey of Eurobarometer, Climate change is seen as the single most serious problem that the world is facing today. The majority of people in the survey mentioned they are doing something themselves to tackle climate change, like reducing waste, going vegan, flying less,... but still the big majority of people holds big businesses and governments around the world accountable to fight the climate crisis on big scale. Most people even mentioned that they find the EU recovery package should largely fund green projects and the economy at large should be re-oriented towards being green. On top of that, 3 quarters of the questioned EU citizens say their national government is not doing enough to tackle climate change. Dear policymakers, this is directly pointed at you! ACT NOW!

In 2021, summer is more than enjoying ice cream and beaches. Each summer, many need to face more severe heatwaves, droughts and wildfires. Canada’s westernmost province experienced record-breaking temperatures over the past week. The fire had caused extensive damage to Lytton. The mayor of Lytton, told the BBC "There won't be much left of Lytton. (..) There was fire everywhere." The fire has recorded 486 deaths over the last five days. Also In Vancouver, British Columbia's biggest city, heat is believed to have been a contributing factor in the deaths of 65 people since Friday. In the US state of Oregon, 60 deaths were tied to the extreme heat while in Washington state, 20 deaths were attributed to the weather. Seattle, Portland and other cities broke all-time heat records, which climbed above 46C. Witnesses of the heat have said: “It feels so hot that you can't actually feel the sweat on your skin because it evaporates so quickly.” These circumstances aren’t livable and neither are they normal. Our planet is showing us that is has been enough. We must stop further destruction and start putting people first. Protecting all this is alive, to secure a livable futur for us and the upcoming generations. HOW CAN THIS NOT BE CLEAR? #climatejustice
