A few random thoughts & facts 💁🏼‍♀️💕✨ One of my favourite things to do is my morning walk along the coast 🏖 Right now I’m reading Think Like A Monk @jayshetty One think I cannot live without is Hudson 🐶 If I could love anywhere in the world it would be Europe. I imagine myself in a small Italian village somewhere in Italy. I would love to meet (and even have lunch with) @racheljdillon I don’t drink alcohol 🍹 give me a sparkling water and fresh piece of lime any day My family all live in Western Australia 🇦🇺 Unpopular opinion: I like pickles on cheeseburger and pineapple on pizzas. I can buy a whole block of chocolate and literally eat ONE square and be satisfied… but hot chips I have zero self control 🥵 Laundry is weirdly therapeutic. I hate scary movies. Fantasy are my fav 👏🏻 Sending love & positive vibes to you all this Monday. Teags & Hudson xoxo

What is a community assessment? A community assessment is a functional assessment which is the staple of an OT’s work. We use it to look at a persons ability to manage in the community. For example: 💫Road Safety 💫 Interacting with others 💫 Money Management 💫 Budgeting 💫 Problem Solving 💫 Orientation to the environment 💫 Physical Capabilities It can be any community interaction however I do this as a grocery shopping task. I do it because it is an activity that most people need to be able to do and it covers a lot of important tasks. I often get my #participants to think of a meal that they would like to cook, generate a list of ingredients, we then go out shopping and use the items for a cooking assessment. But why? Like other functional assessments, they are used to predict whether the individual would be safe and independent in the community and to accurately identify how to support the individual in the community.

Recovering at home with COVID-19? 🦠 Hydration plays an important role in your body’s response to & recovery from the COVID-19 virus. Our body is composed of approx. 70% water. 💦 For an adult with a fever (39 degrees), sweating results in about 800ml of fluid loss every 24 hours! Additional 90ml is lost to breathing and coughing. Unintentional weight loss during illness is a sign your body is losing fluids. Follow these simple steps to keep your body hydrated: 1. Drink water or clear liquids every hour 2. Monitor yourself for signs of hydration 3. Take frequent small sips of liquids 4. Use a variety of liquids to avoid taste fatigue 5. Keep liquids at easy reach

7 Tips to Sharpen Your Grocery Shopping Skills 👍🏻 We spend a whopping 60 hours each year doing grocery shopping. 🙉 This is time you could have spent doing other things- exercising, cooking, or even sleeping. See my tips to support my participants to be in and out of the store in no time. 1. Choose the right day! 🌎 By shopping on the weekend, you are adding upwards of 10 minutes per shopping trip. Choose low peak times (in the morning or late evening) 2. Don’t shop hungry 🤤 Beside running the risk of buying snack foods, shopping hungry is not good for concentration, planning, problem solving and sequencing. 3. Take a shopping list 📝 Stores are full of distractions, you run the risk of forgetting what you wanted to buy, but also buying more than you actually need. 4. Note the cold items 🥩 Plan your movements through the store in such a way that your refrigerated items are placed in your cart last. 5. Don’t get caught up on sales 💵 Like crows attracted to shiny things, our attention is drawn to the bold, yellow “sale” items. Sale items aren’t always the cheapest. 6. Pick the freshest fresh produce 🥦 The oldest produce is stocked in the front, while the freshest is stocked at the back. 7. Read the ingredient list! Think about the item you are buying and check to make sure that ingredient is listed as the first ingredient. Let me know some of your groceries shop hacks in the comments below

OCCUPATION: Grocery shop Shopping is a critical activity of daily living. Why build independence? ✨Prompts autonomy ✨Social inclusion ✨Community Participation When carrying out assessments or intervention we conduct these in real stores in the community, rather than in a mock clinic-based grocery store with simulated materials. This ensures the client is exposed to the various challenges associated with shopping (e.g distracting visual or auditory stimuli). General observations include: ✅ Locating the correct item ✅ Comparing pricing ✅ Checking the expiry dates ✅ Locating the correct size ✅ Body language
