"The people and partners of USAID change lives with their work every day. Thank you to these special guests for joining our 60th anniversary celebrations and recognizing the work of the incredible people at this Agency!" -USAID Administrator Samantha Power #USAIDat60
On this day in 1961 USAID was born in the spirit progress, innovation, and good will. 60 years later and we’re working harder than ever to promote peace and prosperity all around the world. #usaidat60
For 60 years, on behalf of the American people, we have addressed the root causes of hunger and are increasing economic opportunity among vulnerable communities. William Akiwumi has seen both sides of the Agency's efforts — as a child receiving food aid in Ghana and as a 30-year career member providing it. As a young child, William Akiwumi received food assistance from the U.S. Government through USAID; now, as a Senior Agriculture Advisor with USAID’s Bureau for Africa, he works to promote agriculture-led economic growth and food security in Africa. #foodsecurity #USAID #Ghana #Agriculture #publicservice
🇺🇿 Uzbekistan has received over 5 million U.S.-donated #COVID19 vaccine doses. These life-saving vaccines are reaching people at clinics throughout the country, even in rural areas. To save lives now, USAID has provided deep-freeze refrigerators to store vaccines and joined local partners to raise awareness about the importance of getting vaccinated through television, print, and radio ads. #uzbekistan #vaccineswork #COVID19 #USAID
Clean water is essential for life, health and hygiene. After ISIS destroyed pipes and damaged the Al Shimal Water Distribution Network in Iraq, we helped dig wells, lay pipeline and restore access to clean water for 15,000 Iraqis in Sinjar - including many Yezidis now returning home to Sinuni. @undpiraq #Iraq #USAID #Water #CleanWater
After receiving 100k Pfizer vaccines from the United States, students are getting vaccinated in Dili, #TimorLeste. This donation is the first opportunity for Timorse students to receive a life-saving shot. USAID is proud to help vaccinate students against #COVID19 for a safer return to the classroom.

USAID is helping Nepal 🇳🇵 combat COVID-19 and save lives. We provided oxygen tank systems to hospitals across the country that can provide an uninterrupted supply of oxygen to meet Nepal's urgent and long-term oxygen needs. We are also supporting the transportation, distribution, and administration of the 100K US-donated Pfizer vaccines that landed this week. We will continue to stand with our friends in Nepal to end the pandemic.
Earlier this month Administrator Power visited the Dominican Republic 🇩🇴 where she met with local partners, civil society groups, president Luis Abinader - and played a little baseball with youth beneficiaries of USAID programs. #dominicanrepublic #USAID
See some of the faces that are receiving the 200 million U.S.-donated COVID-19 vaccines. These life saving vaccines have been delivered to over 100 countries around the world. They are impacting people like twelve-year-old T. Zelme from #Mongolia, 53-year-old Bijuli from #Nepal, and Moloi Moloi, a factory worker in #Lesotho. The effort to #StoptheSpread of the pandemic requires partnership on many levels, nurses like Reinalda and Faustina from Paraguay are helping roll out these #COVID19 vaccines to save lives now.
We are celebrating the results of a just-ended project in Timor-Leste that helped modernize the Customs Authority and cut import times by 65% and export times by 74% since 2017. The Dili Seaport is the country’s import/export hub and USAID's efforts to boost efficiency at the port has paid big dividends during the #COVID19 pandemic. A lengthy port closure would have made it difficult for the country to maintain enough stocks of fuel, medical supplies, and construction materials to build quarantine facilities. We helped swiftly implement enhanced health and safety measures which led to reopening the port just three days after it closed due to a declared state of emergency. With streamlined procedures and quicker customs clearances in place, traders have also saved millions by eliminating costly consignment delays at the port.
After enduring months of lockdowns in #QuezonCity, Philippines, Mang Leonardo Cabral and his family eagerly awaited the opportunity to return home to Pangasinan, more than 200 kilometers north. But to help ensure he wouldn’t bring the virus to his hometown, he needed to get tested first. Thankfully, he could get a free test at a USAID-supported testing center nearby. Together, USAID Philippines and Quezon City established four new community-based testing centers that offer free #COVID19 testing in vulnerable communities. These testing centers contributed 17% of the city’s testing services in August 2021, allowing Mang Leonardo and his family to finally return home with greater peace of mind and less fear of spreading the virus. #USAIDat60 #COVID19 #philippines Photo: Rosana Ombao for USAID
