Waakye is a Ghanaian dish made from rice and black eye beans. Waakye originates from the Northern part of Ghana and It's very popular street food across all regions. The beans is cooked with Sorghum stalk till tender before the rice is added. The red dried sorghum stalk gives the dish its characteristic flavor and a red appearance. It is served with one or more of the following - Wele(cow hide) Stew, fried fish, fried beef, boiled eggs, gari, spaghetti, shito, fried plantain and a dry salad usually consisting of lettuce, carrots, tomatoes and onions. This is another variation of Okra Stew/Soup which is gradually gaining traction and fast becoming a favourite amongst Ghanaians. Okra soup originated from the Ewe ethnic group in the Volta Region of Ghana. The Gas also have a very similar version. Angwamo (Braised rice) is a Ghanaian style of cooking rice. It is known as angwamo in the Akan language, literally means "oil rice" or omɔ kɛ fɔ(omor ker for) in the Ga language. This is usually cooked with cured beef for a distinct flavour. It is usually served with some vegetables and protein to balance the diet. Angwamo is served with ground pepper(similar to a salsa) or shito. It can be served with any protein of choice eg. Gari and beans is a popular Ghanaian dish made of black eyed beans and topped with blanched palm oil with caramelized onions. It is usually common in the southern parts of Ghana popularly called bober, borbor, gobɛ, yo ke gari and even red red. This is usually served with a side of fried ripe plantain. However in recent times there have been more additions such as fried fish, spicy gizzards, sausage, avocado, boiled eggs to name a few.
