Want to know more about Trail Races? Read on! ⁠ ⁠ HOW IT WORKS⁠ Teams of 8 run roughly 120 miles—in three repeating loops—on wilderness trails that wind through forests, valleys, and mountainsides. You’ll run day, and night, and day again, sleeping (yeah right) in a temporary tent city known as Ragnar Village.⁠ ⁠ TAKE IT ON⁠ Each teammate completes each race loop once—green, yellow, and red—with poker breaks in between, for a total of 15ish miles per runner (twice that for ultra teams). Elevation is inevitable. And so are breathtaking views.⁠ ⁠ TEAM UP⁠ Round up 8 friends, relatives, friends-of-relatives, or relatives-of-friends, and gear up for the outdoor adventure of a lifetime. For an ultra team, divide the runners in half (4) and double your miles. Your only agenda: run, camp, sleep, eat s’mores, repeat.⁠ ⁠ GET YOUR GLAMP ON⁠ Add a touch of luxury to your trail race by reserving an exclusive glampsite—where the tents are already set up, the coolers are full of ice, and the concierge is at your service (within reason).⁠ ⁠ CALLING ALL BADASSES⁠ If three loops and 15ish miles doesn’t sound like enough of a challenge, you might be ready for the Black Loop. This weekend, we’re headed to the Lone Star State for the runner-friendly single-track trails and starry nights! Read on to get the low down on the loops. Will we see you at Flat Rock Ranch? 🟢Green Loop - Creekside Trail Distance: 2.9 miles | Elevation Gain:402.99 feet After leaving Ragnar Village on a single track, you will quickly find yourself in a wide tree-filled grove. You might think you are hallucinating if you run past some longhair goats, but you are not. This is where they hang out. Who knew? They picked a great spot because this quick little loop is a nice cool shaded spot. Enjoy the single-track, and you’ll be baa-baa-back at the Ragnar Village in no time at all. 🟨 Yellow Loop - Pipeline Hill Trail Distance:4.9 miles | Elevation Gain:635.62 feet This trail has the most varied terrain, the best views, and is the most exposed of the entire course. It starts by skirting the edge of a limestone shelf and then starts to climb. After half a dozen switchbacks, you will be rewarded with a view of Flat Rock Ranch below, but maybe it’s not so flat. Now with a big ole grin on your face, you can start the quick descent back to Ragnar Village. This last two miles is fast but be careful; the trail shoots through a few spots where the trees get tight. So don’t wear a set of longhorns as your costume on this loop. ❤️ Red Loop - Upper Loop Trail Distance:7.3 miles | Elevation Gain:995.61 feet This trail leaves the Village on its own and very quickly starts to climb up to the ranch’s main road. Running past the parking lot while dodging cow patties will give you a good warm-up for the rest of the loop. Sticking to a single track for almost the entire trail, you’ll move like a rollercoaster as you bank turns and make a couple of 180-degree turns to start to climb your way out of the valley. Once again, the trail will climb as you near mile one. Switch back your way up the hills until just past mile three. You’ll stay at a nice level elevation for about a mile, then you get to start going down, cruising as you ease your way back into the Ragnar valley, through some shaded tree sections, and back into the Village.... after three more miles.
