This initiative came to alleviate the suffering of Gaza patients in their travel to hospitals in Jerusalem in cooperation between the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights (PCHR), the Palestinian General Authority for Civil Affairs (GACA), the Coordination and Liaison Department (CLA) at the Ministry of Health, Basmat Amal Foundation for Cancer Patients, and al-Makassed Islamic Charitable Society Hospital, in addition to other prestigious figures. This bus, which was called “Al-Amal Bus", aims to transfer for free the Gaza Strip patients in order to alleviate their suffering during their travel and ensure their timely access to the hospital. On Sunday, 26 February 2023, the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights (PCHR) sent a submission to Professor Alena Douhan, the Special Rapporteur on the negative impact of unilateral coercive measures on the enjoyment of human rights, in response to her call for submissions to inform her thematic report for the 54th Session of the UN Human Rights Council (September 2023). ♦️The submission highlights the violations of the right to health committed by Israel, as an occupying power that bears the responsibility of ensuring and respecting the rights of Palestinians under its control. State of the Gaza Strip Border Crossings (01 – 31 January 2023) ♦️The Israeli occupation authorities continue to impose an illegal and inhuman closure on the Gaza Strip for 16 years in a row and isolates more than 2.3 million Palestinians from the outside world through its control over the Gaza Strip’s crossing , and restricting the movement of goods and individuals from and into the Gaza Strip. The ongoing Israeli-closure has deteriorated the economic and social rights of the Gaza population and worsened their living and humanitarian conditions. The unemployment rate reached 47% , while more than half of the population lives in poverty as the poverty rate recorded 60% and more than 68.5% of the Gaza population suffers from food insecurity. Additionally, 80% of the Gaza population relies on international aid.
