For years and years tourists returning from the #IsleofWight have taken a souvenir back home. When looking through @nationaltrust images gallery we noticed photos of a jigsaw puzzle in a cardboard box tied with string apparently of the Old Village at #Shanklin in the collection at @nt_erddig in Wales! It has 242 pieces and handwritten on the side is "MrsYorke from Margaret Issacson July 16.20." We're wondering if @nt_erddig would be able to put the pieces together and send us a picture of the completed puzzle! 📷 ©National Trust / Susanne Gronnow
Paths wind through ancient oak woodland with sunny glades at Borthwood Copse near Apse Heath on the Isle of Wight. Once part of a much larger medieval hunting forest it's a fantastic place to relax, unwind and take a stroll. The oak trees support a vast range of wildlife, including beetles, hoverflies and fungi, and birds and bats also benefit from the cavities created by decaying wood. You may be lucky and see a red squirrel as you discover the maze of paths through the trees. Although the Needles Old Battery is in one of the most dramatically remote places on the Isle of Wight it’s surprisingly easy to get to. You can park at the Needles Landmark Attraction (NT members get a 20% discount on the car park fee) and take an energetic walk up the headland, or park for free at our small old quarry car park at Highdown near the Tennyson Monument (up the road from the Highdown Inn) and walk the two miles across the Down. Until 31 October you can travel to the Old Battery using the Needles Breezer from Yarmouth and Alum Bay (https://www.islandbuses.info/days-out-bus ). There’s a regular Southern Vectis bus that can take you as far Alum Bay and the Needles Landmark Attraction as well (the number 7 https://www.islandbuses.info/services/SVCT/7 and 12 https://www.islandbuses.info/services/SVCT/12 ). National Trust members with a valid NT membership card can purchase a £5 Yarmouth to Needles Battery return, or a £2.50 Alum Bay to Needles return. You can cycle up to the Old Battery where we have cycle racks inside the Old Battery. #NationalTrust #IsleofWight @southernvectisbuses

The former barn at the entrance to #MottistoneGardens to the west of the manor was altered by John Seely, the architect son of 1st Lord Mottistone and partner in Seely & Paget, after 1925. He created an entrance passage through the centre, with low-pitch arches, to provide the main approach to the house. #Mottistone #NationalTrust #IsleofWight #gardens #archtecture
