Once upon a time these salt flats were apart of a mangrove system that separated Murujuga from the mainland of Karratha. Here you can see the old creeks and occasionally you can spot the old trees aswell.
Ngurrangga Tours crew repping the Pilbara at the Perth Tourism Awards. We're finalists in the Qantas Aboriginal Business category alongside the award winning @go_cultural and hopefully we'll have a win but we're up against some amazing competition. Good luck to all finalists tonight and awards or not it's a win for tourism and specifically Aboriginal tourism.
Gurrguranha and Burluthayimbanha. Gurrguranha is the traditional name of Pyramid hill and Burluthayimbanha is the traditional name of the hill to its right. This area is where my Manyga (great grandfather) was from and he was known as the Nyambali (boss) for this area when he was alive. Many Ngarluma people have a strong connection to this hill and it is a sacred place to my people.
Beautiful beaches of the Dampier Archipelago are always great for a swim! Located within Ngarluma country and home to the Yaburrara (Northern Ngarluma).
Old pic I took of my niece, my daughter and her late friend at Horseshoe Gorge during the wet season. Back when my kids were young I'd take them and any of their friends out on country whenever they asked, so their friends could experience our culture and country too!
Old pic of when I took @powderfinger_bandofficial on a tour around Roebourne and Karratha. This was back in my days as an Indigenous Mentor/Liaison for Rio Tinto and before I had any thoughts of becoming a tour operator. I'm pretty sure it was around 2007.
Jardunmarra aka Rothschild rock wallaby just chilling under a rock at Ngajarli in Murujuga National Park
Spent the morning teaching local Rio supervisors about Ngarluma culture and rockart on the Yaburrara trail. We even found rockart that I hadn't seen previously which was awesome such as the one pictured. It depicts a turtle, leaping frog and kangaroo.
I love how brightly coloured the rocks become during sunset!
Tharralyi (tha-dull-yee) Bowerbird The bowerbird loves to collect items to decorate its home in order to attract a female mate. It will find various items that it deems worthy of its awesome little home!
One of the best things about my job is that people want to learn how to survive in the bush and I fully enjoy teaching them. And these lovely ladies are no exception to wanting to be self sufficient. They spent the weekend learning how to find water, food and build simple shelter out on country.
This was a great day on Yindjibarndi country as I spent time with my Elders and cousins learning more about our connection to our ngurra. I don't often get to spend time with my extended family during tourist season so it's awesome when I do.
