Old 30 amp service upgrades to 200 amps

100 amp service you say… something tells me this was a 30 amp service at one point before a panel swap was done in the 70’s. This house is over 100 years old and probably didn’t have a need for anything larger then 30 amps when it was built. Unfortunately, 30 amps is not enough for todays loads and they are now upgraded to a 200 amp service and panel! More then enough power for this house and any of its future electrical needs! • • • • • • • #electrical #panel #service #wire #hack #oldhouse #thisoldhouse #construction #renovation

Building a comfortable home can mean a lot of different things to different people. Most builders focus on the efficiency of a home, some focus on the automation, or the bells and whistles that you can see. Comfort to us means a bit more! Comfort to us means being able to live in your home and use the space to the best of its abilities. Efficiency, automation, bells and whistles are all really nice to have, but what’s the point if you can’t use it to its potential? This post is going to focus on sound transmission and how it is a crucial part of building a comfortable home. Far too many times we hear the same stories from clients. “We have a home theatre but we never get to use it because it disturbs the entire house.” “We have a home office, but I can’t take zoom calls because the kids are too loud”… The list can go on and on. This theatre room had efficiency, automation and most importantly sound control at the front of mind in its design. Sonopan was, without a doubt, the key difference maker in creating a comfortable room that can be enjoyed to its full potential! With help from the Sonopan website we were able to see different wall assemblies and how it changes the STC rating of a wall or ceiling. Taking this information, we were able to strategically decide which walls we needed to pay special attention to in order to enjoy a movie, the way the sound engineer designed it to be heard, and without waking up the kids! • • • • #sonopan #soundproof #theatre #av #renovation #construction @sonopan_msl @drycobuildingsupplies @drycobuildingsuppliesinc

It’s amazing how much change can happen after only a day of work! This parking garage was in dire need of a lighting upgrade! • After issues with a prior strata council draining the contingency fund and leaving no budget for repairs, this was long over due! Keeping budget in mind we were able to successfully complete an LED conversion that will not only make their parkade much safer, but it will save them energy and maintenance in the long run compared to the old fluorescents!

A big thank you to all our clients that trusted us with their automation needs in 2022!

We don’t just keep our wire runs clean and neat…. We organize them from hot to cold as well! This does absolutely nothing of importance except make for a good laugh on site! We absolutely love the @ideal_electrical cable stackers! Rated for up to -8- 14/2 wires it definitely allows us to quickly and easily dress large bundles of wire!

Time to start planning this lighting control upgrade and bringing this house of worship into the LED world!

Why do some receptacles burn up? 🔥 This was caused by a large load being used repeatedly on this circuit. Now the size of the load and the size of the circuit were adequate, so why would we be having issues? 💥 With electrical, it’s the small things that make the biggest difference. A few more twists of the pliers (3 to be exact) and this probably would have been avoided! We had a loose connection on the neutral as well as the hot conductor. The large load, coupled with a mediocre splice over time caused the connection to heat and cool, expand and contract, loosen further, create excessive heat and an air gap which caused sparking in the wire nut and eventually a failure to the equipment. 💡 Did it work for a while after install? YES! …. But did it last? Would you sacrifice on quality on your next project just to save money and have future service calls? The repair is always more expensive then the initial install… 🧯 Are we still going to debate back stabbing? This was a spliced connection done poorly and it failed… had this been back stabbed it probably would have failed a lot sooner! I have a feeling the splicing was done with a drill and a wire nut adapter and this person didn’t even use pliers. Speed is great at keeping production going forward…. But at what cost? It’s not worth the potential hazards when it comes to electrical. We all know the best way to do the job, so why not just do it that way? Why look for short cuts to expedite construction just to push those issues into the near future when they can be avoided all together! • • • • • • • #electrical #fire #safety #regulated #worldofelectricians #worldofelectricianshacks @worldofelectricians

It’s a labour of love when building a home theatre in an older home. This home theatre is going to be outfitted with a 5.2.4 Dolby Atmos surround sound system. 5 is the number of surround speakers in a conventional surround sound set up. 3 fronts and 2 surrounds. 2 is the number of subwoofers. 4 is the number of Dolby Atmos speakers. These 4 speakers in particular add height to the listening experience and really give that immersive and all enveloping sound. The problem we are running into is trying to keep a booming system in the theatre without totally disturbing the living space above! In new construction we have a lot more flexibility in our sound proofing details to keep noise transfer to a minimum. In a 1960’s home with 8 ft ceilings already in the basement, we are limited in space. This scenario proved the perfect opportunity for us to test out @sonopan_msl to build speaker enclosures around all of our in wall and in ceiling speakers, helping us absorb any sound waves that would bounce around the joist cavity as well as direct that sound downwards for a better listening experience. • This room has been fully insulted and is in the process of being sheeted with Sonopan to really keep that noise transfer to a minimum! • Stay tuned for this theatre/ kids play room build as we try out best to make it as sound proof as possible! • • • • • • • @originacoustics @sonopan_msl @luongoelectric @lutronelectronics @sony #sound #soundproof #soundproofing #hometheatre #basement #recroom #lutron #bar #mancave
