What does it take to plan out a fire truck? Time, lots of time. The 722 truck committee spent months “speccing” out the Engine. Painstakingly reading over plans line by line by line making sure we got exactly what we wanted. Then the vendor spends months building the apparatus. After that the committee goes to the factory to make sure everything is still going to plan. Then finally the truck gets delivered. Sometimes the vendor likes your truck so much, they choose to display at the State Convention. We at JTFD1 can't express enough the importance of women and men getting checked for breast cancer regularly. This year hits particularly hard for JTFD1 as a family member of an active JTFD1 firefighter has been recently diagnosed with breast cancer. To do our part in raising awareness and to help the family, our family, out for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, JTFD1 will be selling limited edition t-shirts and 100% of the proceeds will be donated to the affected family member. Last night JTFD1, along with every township emergency service organization, as well as countless township you organizations, attended the 9/11 Memorial Service that was hosted by Boy Scout Troop 151. Each year this ceremony serves as a reminder of not just the tragedy of the day, but allows to reflect on the bravery, courage, and resolve shown by our country in the hours and days after the attack. We thank Troop 151 for inviting us to the event each year. It is an absolute honor be participants in such an important service. Today marks the 22nd anniversary of the terrorist attacks that occurred on September 11, 2001. At JTFD1, we pause and mourn all of those lost in New York, Washington DC, and Pennsylvania. We reflect on the heroism displayed that day by the passengers of Flight 93 who overtook the hijackers and sacrificed themselves to avoid an even larger tragedy. We choose not focus on what our nation’s enemies tore down, but the love and powerful sense of community in the days that followed. We take inspiration from leaders like FDNY Ladder 3 Captain Paddy Brown who in his last moments of life called the 911 dispatch desk to give an update on his crew’s location, and their assignment. After relaying that multiple burn victims were being sent down the stairwells, Captain Brown simply stated “This is 3 Truck, we’re still headed up.” We pay tribute to the 343 firefighters lost in the line of duty that day, giving their lives to save as many others as possible. At JTFD1, we remember. The plaque pictured was mounted in our 2004 Seagrave until its retirement late last year. It is now proudly displayed in 722’s Engine bay as a reminder to all who pass through our firehouse.

Yesterday, a crew from JTFD1 attended the Wetdown for @plfd_truck_52 The crew had an absolute blast. We’d like to congratulate the Pompton Lakes Fire Department on the delivery of their new Truck, and may all those that ride it return home safely.
