We're so honored to announce that our fashion film has been nominated for 9 awards in La Jolla International Fashion Film Festival Festival!! It has always been a dream to explore our sartorial storytelling through film and take leaps to push our mission forward as fashion folklorists. Welcome to Camp Aama ⚓ Brought to life by @houseofaama and @equatorproductions and inspired by the House of Aama Salt Water Spring Summer 2022 collection. The film depicts an exclusive Black resort community where people are safe to experience joy with one other. The collection Salt Water is inspired by the seafaring legacy and Black resort communities that flourished in the US in the early 1900’s. “Salt Water” as a term is an ode to the Africans who crossed the Atlantic Ocean and survived the middle passage to the Americas. Congrats to the talented team that made this possible. It takes a village! 🤍 _ Credits: Director - Anthony Prince - Leslie @anthonyprinceleslie Photographer - @mylesloftin Creative Direction - @houseofaama, @ashleycimone Art Direction - @houseofaama Production Company - Equator Productions @equatorproductions Wardrobe - Tiffani Williams @TiffaniStyles Wardrobe Assistants- @AudraSavannah, @Myles.Colbert Set Design - Brian Suber , House of Aama Main Narrator - Hillary Hawkins Executive Producer - Ashley Cimone @ashleycimone Line Producer - Ric-Chara Pina @rixz Movement Director - Anaka 4n4k4 AC - Wayn O'Hara Reid @theecurrent Gaffer - Carlos Collado @forever_lado Key Grip - Jonathan Charles @jonc.films Make Up Artist - @mai.mor for @newyorkmakeupacademy Make Up Assistant - Mariana Arcila @mabmakeupartist Location Supervisor - Alice Barlow - @barlowandsons Executive Consulting Agency - @maylinlegoff Casting Director - @cochranecasting @champagnevenus_ Footwear - @drmartensofficial @converse Music - 4n4k4 Sound Design - Rajuju Brown Color - @breezus_christ Graphics - @pri.yalad Sea Spirit Flag design @giannilee Production Assistant  -  @wonderworkr, @lettermletterl, @3amwaterchugger, " Yukki" Michael, @corinnewwide

BIPOC creative talent deserve the spotlight year-round. That’s why we're proud to support the @cfda in their efforts to identify, connect, support, and nurture Black and Brown creatives and professionals in fashion through the IMPACT talent directory — produced in partnership with #Creatively. Monthly, we spotlight an IMPACT talent directory member and their incredible creative work. For September, meet 2021 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Finalist, House of Aama. 👗 Established in 2015, mother-daughter design duo Akua Shabaka and Rebecca Henry stand at the helm of the boutique lifestyle brand. Manufactured in Los Angeles, the brand explores the Black experience by designing timeless garments with nostalgic references informed by historical research, archival analysis, and storytelling. Each collection aims to evoke social commentary around heritage and nuanced histories. As an ode to Africans who survived the middle passage to the Americas, “Salt Water,” House of Aama’s Spring/Summer 2022 collection, conjured up a fictionalized Black resort community inspired by 1900s nautical fashion. Last month, the collection’s fashion film won the Best Fashion Award at the La Jolla International Fashion Film Festival. Illustration process of House of Aama x Gianni Lee Sea Spirit mini capsule 🔥 House of Aama launched a mini capsule within the SS22 Salt Water collection with Philadelphia native visual and street artist @giannilee. This mini capsule highlights the colorful and rich “Sea Spirit” print, illustrated by Gianni Lee. 🎨 The illustration is inspired by sea water deities, black mermaids, black sailors, underwater kingdoms, lost treasure, navigational coordinates and the Trans-atlantic slave-trade. It was designed on a flag because flags are used in ritual and traditional spaces to connect with spirit and community. Inspired by the Seafaring legacy of the 1900’s and African water deities, the “Sea Spirit” print can be seen in a silk charmeuse button down, sarong, scarf, and power mesh turtleneck.
