A law enforcement underwater dive team arrived at a nature reserve in Florida on Wednesday as part of the search for Brian Laundrie, Gabby Petito's fiancé who has been missing for several days. A large van and boat from the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office arrived midday Wednesday at the Carlton Reserve, a swampy 25,000-acre reserve in Venice, Florida, where Laundrie told his parents he was headed last week. The dive team, called the Sheriff's Underwater Recovery Force (SURF), is made up of "highly trained underwater specialists" who are "called upon to search for evidence of crimes and victims of drowning, water accidents and foul play," the sheriff's department website says.
The FBI is asking for the public's help in finding her fiancé, Brian Laundrie, who returned home to Florida without Petito three weeks ago. The search for Laundrie resumed at 8 a.m. Wednesday at a swampy Florida nature reserve as new information emerged about his previous movements and about the couple's volatile relationship. The FBI said the agency would like information from anyone who may have had contact with Petito or Laundrie, anyone who visited the Spread Creek Dispersed Camping Area in the Bridger-Teton National Forest between August 27-30 or anyone who may have seen their vehicle.
#GabbyPetito was killed by another person, a coroner concluded while also confirming that the human remains found recently at a Wyoming national park were those of the 22-year-old woman who disappeared months after she set out on a cross-country road trip with her boyfriend, the FBI said Tuesday. Teton County Coroner Brent Blue determined Petito was a homicide victim, but did not disclose a cause of death pending final autopsy results, officials said. Her body was found Sunday near an undeveloped camping area in remote northern Wyoming along the border of Grand Teton National Park.
People have been placing teal ribbons throughout the community in Blue Point as a show of support for the family, according to the FDNY Firefighter John F. McNamara Foundation, where Gabby's mother, Nichole Schmidt, volunteers and serves as a member of the board. "We put out as many as we had last night and have approximately 600 more on order," the Johnny Mac Foundation, as it is colloquially known, told FOX 5 NY in a Facebook message. Residents of Patchogue, Sayville, Rocky Point, Brentwood, and Holbrook are looking to put ribbons up as well. "We will see this in many communities as a beautiful show of support for the family and in memory of Gabby," the foundation said.
Autopsy results have confirmed that the remains found Sunday in the Bridger-Teton National Forest are those of Gabby Petito, a 22-year-old woman who disappeared while on a trip exploring national parks with her fiancé, Brian Laundrie, according to the FBI in Denver.
"Gabby made a mark on anyone she came in contact with. Even [if] it was a quick interaction. She not only sees the light in everyone but spreads her light with everyone. At my lowest, she managed to help me keep my chin up," Petito’s best friend in Florida told Fox News.
The body believed to be Gabby Petito will undergo an autopsy Tuesday as her fiance, Brian Laundrie, remains missing. Board-certified forensic pathologist Priya Banerjee joined "Fox & Friends First" on Tuesday offering her expertise on the key features of the autopsy and the potential challenges in determining the time and cause of death.
"I want to personally thank the press and news media for giving the Petito and Schmidt family time to grieve," lawyer Richard Stafford said, referring to Petito's mom, dad, stepfather and stepmother. "We will be making a statement when Gabby is home. I will contact you to arrange a time and location." While the autopsy results are still pending, the FBI has already said it believes the remains found in Grand Teton National Park Sunday are Petito's. Their biggest question right now: Where is Brian Laundrie?

FBI agents swarmed Brian Laundrie’s home in Florida on Monday, declaring it a “crime scene” one day after a body believed to be his girlfriend #GabbyPetito was found in Wyoming. About a dozen agents wearing bullet-proof vests descended just before 10 a.m. on the Laundrie family’s home on Wabasso Avenue in North Port, entering through an unlocked door in the front. “Get behind the tape. This is now an active crime scene,” an agent warned the media outside
A family lawyer also released a statement to FOX News, asking for the family to be allowed to grieve at this time and also thanking authorities for their tireless efforts in finding #GabbyPetito: “I am making a personal request to members of the press and news media to refrain from contacting the Schmidt and Petito family,” Richard Benson Stafford said in a statement obtained by FOX. “Due to today’s developments, we are asking the press and news media to have some decorum and sensitivity for Gabby’s family and allow them to grieve. I will be in contact with you when Gabby’s family is ready to make a public statement.”
Today, we honor #GabbyPetito and her family. We still need questions answered, Justice for Gabby.
