We have an important announcement to share with our community. Thank you to everyone who has been following the Forkful journey so far, our mission and hope has always been to help shift attitudes around food waste and educate the community about the small steps they can take that will have a big impact on our environment. We know the Forkful platform can help solve part of the hospitality industry’s food waste issue – we’ve seen this first hand through our City of Darebin trial where we worked with a handful of businesses and saw close to a hundred meals diverted from landfill in just four short weeks. We also know consumer demand is there, and the food waste issue is there, but timing is everything and right now, more than ever, the hospitality industry is really hurting. The Forkful team will be taking a small break for the remainder of 2023, please hit the link in bio to read our update in full. Hugs, the Forkful team

Winter is a great time to make the most seasonal fruits like apples and pears and create warm, tasty baked goods - we love an apple crumble! To make sure you make the most of your apple and pear hauls, here's some ideas to use up any leftovers; 🍏Drying them - dried fruit is a snacking favourite. 🍎Puree them - use the puree to make – apple pies or eat it just as it is 🧃Juice them - or add them to your daily smoothie! 🥧Of course, bake them - as we said, deliver a warm crumble to us any day of the week! We hope this has inspired you to use what is in your fruit bowl. Fighting food waste |📍Melbourne | Help save the 🌏 @forkful

We love sharing stats, but this one hurts! Australian's waste this much annually, and most of it is edible. Fighting food waste starts with the individual first. Around this time of year, Melbournians are planning their European escape, and soon, our feed will be a sea of gorgeous photos of blue oceans and sunny nights with sangria! (not jealous at all). It reminds us of our lovely time in Italy and where the idea for Forkful first originated. We found it very inspiring the way that they were tackling food waste. To learn more about our story, head to our website! Fighting food waste |📍Melbourne | Help save the 🌏 @forkful

Here is a great idea to use up your citrus peels! The Zero Waste Chef shared a great idea to make citrus salt. Here's how; 'Rub together 1 part salt to 1 part lemon zest with your fingers. This will break up the clumps of zest. Store in a jar. Mix the zest with an equal amount of coarse sea salt and use your concoction for seasoning vegetables, pasta, rice, risotto, soup and more.' We are going to try this; thanks, @zerowastechef, for sharing! 🍋 Fighting food waste |📍Melbourne | Help save the 🌏 @forkful

If you thought food waste wasn’t a problem, just take a little look at these stats! 🌏Each year, Victorian households throw away 250,000 tonnes of edible food – enough to fill Melbourne’s Eureka Tower. 🌏The average household in Victoria throws away $2,136 a year in wasted food. 🌏Almost two thirds of the food Victorian households throw away could have been eaten. We invite you to take note of this information and make a change within your own household. These stats are from sustainability.vic.gov.au Fighting food waste |📍Melbourne | Help save the 🌏 @forkful
