Domestic violence becomes especially deadly when guns are involved. Access to a gun makes it five times more likely that a woman will die at the hands of an abuser. Next month, the Supreme Court will decide in US v. Rahimi whether or not abusers under domestic violence restraining orders should be able to have guns. Putting more guns in the hands of abusers will only put more people in dangerous situations at greater risk.

Smith & Wesson just relocated their #KillerBusiness to Tennessee—a state with some of the weakest gun laws in the country—after Massachusetts lawmakers proposed a ban on the production of assault weapons. We showed up to give them a warm welcome at their grand opening. While Smith & Wesson rakes in hundreds of millions, their products are used in shootings and our communities suffer the consequences. Gun makers shouldn’t be able to sit on the sidelines and ignore our gun violence crisis. Join @StudentsDemand in demanding Smith & Wesson conduct a thorough human rights impact assessment of its products and stop marketing guns to kids and teens. Add your name at the link in our bio.

If you're a gun seller, your customer's word that they don't have a dangerous history isn't enough. That's what background checks are for. Each year, there are more than 1.2 million online ads for guns that wouldn’t legally require a background check—and nearly 1 in 9 prospective buyers who respond to these ads wouldn’t pass a background check. It's time to close loopholes in our background check system that allow unlicensed sellers to sell guns—most often online or at gun shows—without background checks. Take action with just two clicks at the link in our bio.

For over 35 years, National Compadres Network (NCN) has taken a culturally-rooted and healing-centered approach to supporting transformational healing for people who have experienced trauma. NCN’s core belief is that La Cultura Cura creates pathways for marginalized communities to rediscover their cultural medicine to address traumas and prevent them from being passed onto the next generations, especially in the manifestation of violence. This #LatinxHeritageMonth, we’re highlighting Latinx-led community violence intervention organizations. Today is the first day of Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Our country faces a uniquely lethal domestic violence problem. Each month, 70 women on average are shot and killed by an intimate partner, and nearly 1 million women alive today have been shot or shot at by a partner. Guns only make domestic violence deadlier. The presence of a gun in a domestic violence situation makes it five times more likely that a woman will be killed at the hands of an abuser. This #DVAM, we’ll call attention to America's domestic gun violence crisis, elevate stories from survivors of domestic violence, share resources, and discuss evidence-backed policies to disarm abusers.

The gun suicide rate among young Americans has increased faster than that of any other age group. We know that access to a gun triples risk of death by suicide. States that require background checks on all gun sales are associated with lower rates of gun homicide, suicide, and trafficking—but background checks can't save lives if they're not being conducted. Text CHECKS to 644-33 to submit a comment in support of ATF's proposed rule to help close loopholes that allow gun sellers to get away with selling guns without being licensed and running background checks.
