Basecorp Development / 2023 While the exterior employs the robust solidity of fired clay to contend with its gritty inner-city context, the interior spaces offer volume, light, and soft warm tones of western hemlock. Office staff who finish their commute along a street devoid of trees are welcomed by an internal courtyard garden which brings morning sunlight into the kitchen and provides a botanical oasis. Tristram Precinct / 2022 Internally, carefully positioned light wells pierce the upper levels, providing natural light deep into the large floor plates. Last week marked a significant milestone for the Waikato region as the New Zealand Blood Service opened the doors to its new donor centre on London Street. The facility has been purpose-built to house the NZ Blood Service, resulting in a significant transformation of the prominent corner site. The upper floors of the building accommodate the donor centre and their regional office, while the lower level has been devoted to logistics and storage to enhance service operations. Three levels of custom-made glass profiles shield staff and donors from the busy city streets. Subtle creases to the glass façade, which would otherwise have been fairly rigid, has given the building life and made a vibrant addition to the surrounding environment.
