A big part of my work is change. I remember my mother telling me at a very early age “living in a city means living with change” some is good and some is bad I guess. I rearrange and make new compositions of my work all the time. Find a new moment. The moment is fragile but the moment is now. I’m not Bill Murray in caddyshack, I haven’t caddied for da Lama…yet. In another life I wanted to be a photographer. It is still a small part of my work but Luckily I still have good friends like @claytonhauck to keep me informed. Chef Louis laid the groundwork for the restaurant scenes you see today and my Opa was a postman and helped dig Lower Wacker. Chicago: My favorite city. Last night I was sitting at my favorite spot writing this and I couldn’t help but think… what would Nelson Algren think of Division street today? Mark Twain would certainly agree this isn’t the Chicago anyone saw last time through? I heard Royko and Turkel laughing in the corner of The Billy Goat in the distance, drinks and cigs in hand. I heard the progressive voices of Jane Addams and Lorraine Hansberry on our south and west sides, and I swore even Carl Sandburg was whispering in my ear of a bold slugger of a city. It occurs to me… THIS IS NO QUIET CITY. Today I’m very excited to announce my first book of poems and a multi part exhibition of new paintings all over our fair city. I will have work in 8 locations this summer all over our city and a major exhibition of new works on my favorite street in Wicker Park opening on July 1. Location announced soon. I woke up this morning getting ready for the beginnings of my busiest months since Covid. Around 730 am about a half a dozen people texted me and everyone seemed concerned, apparently it was all because one of my best friends @kate.lynn.lewis made this very sweet post, but she worded it like I was the dead parrot. I had hit the pearly gates. Fret no more it seemed. It was very funny so now I may as well return the fake eulogy. I am Tom Sawyer. I am so proud of this woman. Yes I took her tagging, yes I told her art can be a viable career and yes we went out for dinner and drinks when we both got hired for @chicago_riverwalk and we laughed about it all. She is a absolute gem and that’s why she is part of “the people in your neighborhood” We’ve had beers and cigars and fried chicken in Miami, we’ve done graffiti in multiple cities, and it is pretty amazing that our work lives together on the riverwalk for hopefully years to come. I’ll just always remember the gal who tagged a garage door for the first time and figured out it can be your life too… #dontfret #chicago #thisisnoquietcity

Chicago: my favorite city. There is a lot to accomplish this summer, this is a silly project but I think an important one. We are distributing thousands of these coasters across the city with a simple question “can I ask you about…?” If you stumble upon one of these in your local bar or restaurant I hope you’ll fill in the blank and engage with a stranger. I think you’ll find some miraculous results come from talking to a stranger. #dontfret #chicago #chicagoart #chicagocoasterproject
