Marriage is hard. No one ever told me it would be. Of course I've heard all of the cliché sayings, listened to the endearing advice from cute elderly couples, etc. But when it comes down to it, we young people often think we know it all. More often than not, that seasoned advice gets laughed off... in one ear and out the other. After nearly 10 years together, you'd think we have it all figured out. That's the funny part. Sometimes for a split second, it feels like that. Sometimes for a few weeks, months, or years even, it seems like everything is just perfect. And then life kicks in! All I'm saying is, on social media you see the smiles and the love. You don't get to hear the lecture Michael gets when I see his dishes piled up in our kitchen sink... or the face he makes when I tell him I don't feel like making dinner and we're getting takeout, yet again. Marriage is hard, sometimes fun... but don't forget the hard part. Every single day, marriage presents you with the choice to listen better, to try harder, and to work at understanding your partner and their needs more clearly. You can grow together, or you can grow apart... but you're growing every day, whether you realize it or not.
