Join us at Asia Society Hong Kong Center on Thursday May 25, 2023 for “Beyond the Wooden Heart: Plant-based Materials in East Asian Classical Sculptures”: a presentation by Dr Zhu Ruolin, moderated by Mr Li Qi. ⁠ ⁠ In this special presentation, Dr Zhu Ruolin examines the history of East Asian classical sculptures from the perspective of technique and material. The study focuses on the organic materials sourced from plants, chiefly wood, hemp fibre, and resin, in reference to the technique of applying and mixing such materials in achieving enduring structure and meticulous finishing.
