Hey, it’s Dave, the Founding nerd behind Arcane Distilling. 6 years ago, I designed Arcane from the ground up specifically to create an energy efficient, environmentally responsible way to distill exceptional spirits. This new technology made Arcane’s line of vacuumed distilled beer whiskey possible - proof that quality spirits and environmental responsibility could co-exist. It’s taken years of development and I am proud of the technology and innovative core spirits that formed a base for Arcane to grow.   While I was looking forward to the next step of scaling up Arcane's operations, it will unfortunately have to take place without me. This post announces that after almost 6 years of this project being my life, I am departing Arcane today. I’m leaving behind a team with big plans for Arcane that differ from my own.    It's impossible to convey what the past 10 years of working in this industry and community has meant to me, but I’m going to try -   Thank you to all the amazing fans from NYC and beyond that have been an inspiration and support system to Arcane and myself all through the years. To those brave beta testers and hardy Sunday bottling crews - you’re the absolute best. To the homebrewing community that suffered through so many of my experiments, thanks for getting weird with me. To all of the brewers and breweries that I’ve collaborated with and hung out at over the decade - seriously, I’m not sure if there would be an Arcane without you. Finally, a very special thank you to all of the service industry professionals whose knowledge, talent, hustle, and love of my bizarre project was so integral to its development.     Thanks again, and cheers!

The service and hospitality industry is one (if not THE) backbone in this country. The hard working people that make the whole thing run are being strained like never before by the necessary but drastic measures put out by local and federal governments. For this reason we’d like to introduce you to the @rwcfnyc. If you’re a service industry worker, not only has the Restaurant Worker’s Community Foundation compiled an extensive list of resources but they are the folks you can actually contact if you need help figuring this out. If you have an immediate emergency please use the usual emergent channels, but for preparing and planning to weather this storm, contact them. For folks that aren’t in the service industry, now is the time to return the hospitality and donate to help. Donation information is right at the top of their website and Instagram. @rwcfnyc restaurantworkerscf.org #returnthehospitality

TBT - a fun little Arcane side project was the Lab Rat IPA. Made for the NYC beer week event “Brewpiphany” wort share started by Kelly Taylor and Chris Cuzme at the old @kelsobeer location in Cobble Hill. The brewery made a batch of wort and NYC homebrewers were asked to brew whatever they wanted and bring it back for a big party. So, we kept it weird. This IPA was brewed without any aromatic or dry hop and then “hopped” by each taster with a couple of different cryogenically extracted hop isolates! Not a process we use in our whiskey, but super fun nonetheless. Shout out to the future owners of @fifthhammerbeer and @svendale in these pics!
