1) Tell us a little about yourself. What are you doing now and where do you come from?
Hi! I am 22 years old, I’m from New York and I am currently in my first year of law school!
2) What are your topics of interest? What do you post on Instagram the most?
I’m mainly drawn to law, psychology, and mental health. I grew up modeling and became infatuated with social media through that. Social media is science, and it has a big weight on how our society interacts, and feels. I find it vital for the right people to use social media to counteract all of the harm it is capable of. On instagram I post mainly updates of my life, whether its photos from shoots, or pictures with friends, I like to keep my instagram specifically more professional (in the fashion industry) compared to the field of law, and the work I am doing there.
3) How did your Instagram name come about?
My social media handles were usually “Star Alex” and people ended up getting pretty confused about my name (because they think Star can’t be someones real name). So people would come up to me and ask in front of my friends “are you Star Alex”? My friends teased me for this, and it became an ongoing joke. The username was taken on other apps, so I turned it into @whosstaralex. Partly to make fun of everyone calling me by my handle, and additionally because it’s what was available.
4) What are some apps you use to edit your photos? Share with us your photo-editing routine!
I love polarr for lighting. I also use the regular iPhone camera app to edit lighting a bit first, and also red eye (though I do not recommend it for red eye). When I wasn’t in law school I had more time to edit photos. Now with the lack of time, and additionally my intentions to be my authentic self online, I really dont edit my photos much. I dont want to portray a fake version of myself online, and I dont want to have young women looking up to me with unrealistic expectations.
5) Any Instagrammers whom you really like? Which Instagrammer inspires you the most?
I love Emma chamberlain. She’s authentically herself, and I think that she’s a good influence on the young generation because they can see that you can still be admired, beautiful, and valuable while not putting on a fake image of perfection.
6) What’s your favorite part about being an influencer?
I love working with brands. I love meeting amazing people who run businesses, and seeing other people’s drives and passion. I also love connecting with others. Especially during the pandemic where we can’t meet people in person, its lovely to connect with people online. I’ve connected with some of my favorite celebrities, actors, and models, all through social media. Certainly one of the up sides of it.
7) What’s your favorite part about StarNgage? Any exciting campaigns that you have joined through StarNgage before?
This is my first involvement and I am very excited! I have been checking out interviews for a while!
8) What are some of your top tips to brands for running campaigns? How do you maintain authenticity?
Know your audience! Dont try to force an image that isn’t happening, just know who resonates with the brand and go for that, and love it!
9) What would your advice be on the importance of quality and original content?
Honestly, dont over think things. Sometimes its the posts I personally dislike the most and fear posting that are the ones that go viral.
10) What do you like best about partnering with brands?
Meeting incredible people, and trying products first! I love collaborating with brands for a while and just repping them out on the streets. My friends and classmates know which brands I regularly work with, and I love the loyalty to specific brands, and products.
