1) Tell us a little about yourself. What are you doing now and where do you come from?
I’m Nina, a 25 year old Canadian travel blogger. Although I’m a born and bred Canadian, I’ve spent the last three years as a digital nomad exploring the world. I love sharing my travel adventures, the amazing food I discover, and helpful tips for others to follow in my footsteps.
I’m all about wellness, ambition, and happiness – all of which I 100% believe travel gives you.
Lately I’ve been hiking the mountains in Canada with my sister’s dog while I save up for a van to take my adventures (and maybe her dog) on the road!
2) What are your topics of interest? What do you post on Instagram the most?
I love food, animals, travel, and wellness. Most of all, I love anything that makes me smile. So I’m a sucker for a good comedy – especially in book form!
My Instagram is devoted to my travel blog, Nina Out and About. I’ve filled it with inspiring content, helpful tips, fun facts, and some of my favourite shots from around the world.
3) How did your Instagram name come about?
It’s pretty boring really: it’s my actual name. I converted my personal account into my business account three years ago. Unfortunately, the name of my blog was already taken on Insta and I found it too annoying to add underscores.
So far it hasn’t hindered me in sharing great travel content for millennial women to see.
4) What are some apps you use to edit your photos? Share with us your photo-editing routine!
I grew up on Photoshop, so I’m a full Adobe-devotee.
I use Lightroom CC and Photoshop to edit all of my photos. If I need some extra graphics, I head to Canva for help.
I’ve been using free Lightroom presets from fellow travel bloggers that I adjust – especially sky and myself – for enhancements.
5) Any Instagrammers whom you really like? Which Instagrammer inspires you the most?
I love @ownitbabe, a wellness influencer from Canada who shares some cool German content as well. My favourite travel Instagrammers are @the_flyaway_girl_ and @girlgoneabroad. I’ve followed them for years now, and actually met Penelope in New Zealand.
When I’m looking for great content, it’s 50% amazing photos and 50% inspiring words that I can relate to.
6) What’s your favorite part about being an influencer?
I love sharing my story with others and helping inspire theirs. So many young women don’t realize the opportunities waiting for them out in the world. I hear time and time again that they have doubts or are struggling to find ways to travel.
My favourite thing in the world is when someone tells me I’ve helped them turn their solo travel dreams into reality.
7) What’s your favorite part about StarNgage? Any exciting campaigns that you have joined through StarNgage before?
I’m super excited to join StarNgage and start monetizing my work. I’m new to sponsored posts on Instagram so I’m really excited to grow in that regard. I love that we upload our own analytics so that we can be sure advertisers are seeing what we see.
8) What are some of your top tips to brands for running campaigns? How do you maintain authenticity?
I always ask for flexibility with brands so that I can maintain my voice while sharing their product. I think it’s important to not limit your brief to one type of blogger, as many can provide excellent content for that niche. I’ve shocked many lifestyle and food brands by applying and turning out to be a unique candidate that can help them access a whole new market they never even thought of.
Brands also need to start learning how to divide their content amongst posts, stories, and reels.
9) What would your advice be on the importance of quality and original content?
It’s obviously hugely important. You are your brand, which means you need to be true to yourself.
We can all tell when someone is being fake or using lines given by someone else. So can your audience and it’ll alienate them.
10) What do you like best about partnering with brands?
I love getting to work with products I’ve loved for years and help increase their reach. It feels really great to be able to participate in their growth.
I love it when my audience discover something new to help them with their solo travel journey.
