Instagram Influencer Spotlight On: Sarah Kagan @sarkagan

1) Tell us a little about yourself. What are you doing now and where do you come from?

I’m Sarah Kagan, a 23- year old from Toronto, Canada. When I’m not in the UK studying at law school, I’m documenting my travels around the world and blogging about my latest fashion, beauty and lifestyle tips and tricks. My blog and Instagram account has really taken off since moving to Europe. I think my online presence really resonates with many people because I’m real, raw and super goofy. I can relate to my North American fans (since that’s where I’m from) and my new- found European followers. I don’t limit myself or my online presence because much like me and my life, I’m ever changing.

2) What are your topics of interest? What do you post on Instagram the most?

I love fashion, beauty, interior design, travel etc. I love to post about my latest travels, my outfits, makeup looks, and all things pretty! I like my online realm to mirror my bubbly and fun personality. When people look at my Instagram, I want people to feel they are apart of my life and along for a fun ride. I’m real and raw and that is exactly what my Instagram depicts.

3) How did your Instagram name come about?

My Instagram name is fairly simple, sarkagan. It’s a combination of the first three letters of my first name and my last name. I like ot keep it simple so family, friends and fans can find me easily online.

4) What are some apps you use to edit your photos? Share with us your photo-editing routine!

I like my photos to look natural and bright. Natural lighting is everything and I truly believe over-editting photos was a trend that has ended. I like to use VSCO Cam, ColorStory and PicsArt sparingly. I use these apps to enhance the beauty already existing in photos.

5) Any Instagrammers whom you really like? Which Instagrammer inspires you the most?

I have so many different interests in life and my Instagram followers mirror those interests. At the moment I love @ori.ginals for all things street style, @ChampagnePapi because of my love for him, my city and his music, @notyourstandard for all things fashion, @TheTorontoRaptors because I love basketball and my Toronto team, @to_finest for all the delicious food Toronto has to offer.
Believe it or not, my friends inspire me the most. Having a personal connection to them makes me love both them and their creative content. When I see my friends wearing a cute outfit or travelling to a new destination, I am intrigued and inspired.

6) If there’s one thing your fellow Instagrammers just gotta try now, what’s it gonna be?

All the rage has been large fishnet tights and torn jeans. I think it’s so rad and different, I need to try it.
After moving to England, I also want to try all the cool restaurants that @top_london_restaurants show off.

7) What’s your favorite part about being an influencer?

I love sharing my passions and interests with others. I think it’s incredible and so flattering when people reach out to me and tell me they love what I’m creating and putting out on the internet. I hope that I can continue to inspire others to do what they love and follow their dreams.

8) What are some of your top tips to brands for running campaigns? How do you maintain authenticity?

Include more real, everyday people in campaigns. Flaws are incredible and should be embraced. I believe as a society we are getting tired of the fake ads that have “perfect” written all over them and that is why blogging has become so incredibly popular. People are looking for more authentic media that better represents themselves. Airbrush is out, real and raw is in!

9) What would your advice be on the importance of quality and original content?

Photos and videos must be clear, bright and sharp. Editting apps should be used sparingly to help add value to content, not make it look over-editted and tacky. Keep your content real. Natural lighting is everything!

10) What do you like best about partnering with brands?

I like being able to bring awareness to brands that I love and support. If I love a product or service, I will be the first one to tell me family and friends about them. It is important to share good experiences, products and services with friends and family so it’s a win-win for both parties.
