1) Tell us a little about yourself. What are you doing now and where do you come from?
My name is Suzanne and I’m the Founder & Creative Director of MaQ + Suz, a New York City-based lifestyle blog about Suzanne and her German Shepherd dog, MaQ, sharing their daily adventures in fashion & beauty, health & fitness, food & recipes, photography, travel, and more. Aside from being a digital content creator, I am also a novelist debuting my first novel in January 2015 and a writer/photographer.
2) What are your topics of interest? What do you post on Instagram the most?
Lifestyle, photography, portraits, fashion. Personal stories. I like to interact with my followers and feel this is the way to get the most of out what interests us, both me and the reader.
3) How did your Instagram name come about?
It’s my full name. I initially had it shorter but changed it to stick to the branding image and name.
4) What are some apps you use to edit your photos? Share with us your photo-editing routine!
Photoshop is the only app I use when it comes to editing. Sometimes Lightroom too.
5) Any Instagrammers whom you really like? Which Instagrammer inspires you the most?
I’m completely inspired by Chriselle Lim. She has helped me through some very difficult moments in my life and continues to be such an inspiration to me on a daily basis.
6) If there’s one thing your fellow Instagrammers just gotta try now, what’s it gonna be?
I just discovered this new Korean beauty skincare line, Klairs. Their midnight blue calming cream is truly a life saver for those hormonal breakouts we all tend to get from time to time. I put in on a pimple overnight and voila by the next morning, it’s gone!
7) What’s your favorite part about being an influencer?
Helping other find themselves in any way shape or form. Self-discovery is a tricky, slippery slope. I have always found inspiration from the do-ers and creatives of the world. I like to consider myself one of them, and even for a fleeting moment if I can help brighten someone’s day with my words or photos, I feel happy. Because I made someone happy.
8) What are some of your top tips to brands for running campaigns? How do you maintain authenticity?
I am selective with who I choose to work with. I don’t do it for the money, power or fame. I do it to help people find their way through life because life isn’t always cute. But why not try and make life more enjoyable and even fun? Especially with what’s happening with the world, it never hurts to spread positivity and love around.
9) What would your advice be on the importance of quality and original content?
Stay true to your style and aesthetics. Don’t listen when others tell you your Instagram feed needs to be crisp white and minimal, or bright and colorful. WHO CARES. What moves you? Are you excited about what your shooting for your next content or story? If not, don’t even bother doing it. The same goes with when receiving a pitch/proposal. If it doesn’t get your heart pumping, don’t think twice about it and move on to something that will.
10) What do you like best about partnering with brands?
I love building lasting longtime relationships with brands that I truly believe in. This is one of the better ways to get your authenticity across your content. And I love being introduced to new and smaller brands I’ve never heard before. It’s always such a pleasure to be pleasantly surprised 🙂
