Instagram Influencer Spotlight On: Sammie Jeanne @sage.cosplays

1) Tell us a little about yourself. What are you doing now and where do you come from?

Well, I’m a 20-something who is currently running a cosplay account. My main fandom as of now is Undertale, which got me into cosplaying. I wanted to start cosplaying a long time ago, but I was rather intimidated to start because I had no background whatsoever. I noticed many of the characters in Undertale were easy cosplays so I started doing it, and creating content, and people somehow like it haha. I also have a photography background, so that helped me create unique photos due to knowledge of lighting, composition and colour theory.

2) What are your topics of interest? What do you post on Instagram the most?

I’m currently into gaming, makeup, and cosplay. I also like fashion, sfx makeup and photography too. My account focuses on cosplay, sfx makeup and photography (all combined haha).

3) How did your Instagram name come about?

My handle through most of my social media accounts is Sage of Fire (which is a Legend of Zelda reference.) It was a pretty random pick out of all the Sages from Ocarina of Time. When I started my cosplay account I wanted something easy to remember so, I went with sage.cosplays

4) What are some apps you use to edit your photos? Share with us your photo-editing routine!

I mostly shoot my selfies in BeautyCam and I’ll shoot in a filter that fits my character. Afterwards, I might use Makeup Plus to touch up my makeup. After that, I like adding borders with my images so they fit in a square crop (I shoot all my portraits vertical). For this, I will do a row per character that has the same border so my theme is cohesive. Before uploading it to Instagram, I will turn down the shadows, bump up the highlights and turn down the colour temperature and slightly bump the contrast up.

5) Any Instagrammers whom you really like? Which Instagrammer inspires you the most?

There are so many instagrammers I adore in the community; some of my favourites are:
mtt_mettaton
crisiskode
badcosplay
tricksterkarkat
etherealghost
alostduck
theofficialchara

and many more!

6) If there’s one thing your fellow Instagrammers just gotta try now, what’s it gonna be?

This goes to people in the cosplay community; Don’t be afraid to experiment and do things differently! You don’t have to look 100% canon. If you wanna add some cool details or glue flowers all over your cosplay and on your face (use liquid latex for this not actual glue!!) then go for it! There is no rule saying you have to be canon. Cosplay is about self expression and showing your love for something and your artistic abilities, so let that shine, and don’t be afraid to do things differently.

7) What’s your favorite part about being an influencer?

I love hearing that I inspire others. It really makes me smile and warms my heart. I want to be a good and positive role model in the community and share love and kindness with everyone. I also love making many online friends within the Instagram network and collaborating and doing projects together.

8) What are some of your top tips to brands for running campaigns? How do you maintain authenticity?

Aahh, I’m not sure how to answer this question

9) What would your advice be on the importance of quality and original content?

Always be yourself! It’s okay to be inspired by others, but if you do use someone’s design (costume, makeup etc) ask for permission and give them credit! For quality content, shoot with good lighting! Lighting is everything as well as composition. I like shooting during the day right in front of my window. If you live in a place (like a basement apartment) that doesn’t have good lighting, you can always do some shooting outdoors or maybe invest in some lighting.

10) What do you like best about partnering with brands?

I like partnering with brands that I genuinely enjoy, as well as partnering with new or indie brands that post similar content or reflect my interests. I like being able to spread the word to others about how much I love something and why they’d love it too.
