Instagram Influencer Spotlight On: Sam Droege @USGSBIML

1) Tell us a little about yourself. What are you doing now and where do you come from?

Me? I run a laboratory. In that laboratory we process thousands of bee specimens. Some are honey bees. Some are bumble bees, but most are the thousands of other species of bees that pollinate our wild plants that people ignore, but keep the planet alive.

2) What are your topics of interest? What do you post on Instagram the most?

Instagramish-wise. It would be mostly bees, but we are also interested in plants, seeds, micro micro small insects. We are also into different and new photographic techniques. On instagram we emphasize the fundamental beauty of all of nature and tell stories about the critters and adventures we take pictures of.

Photostacking.

7) What’s your favorite part about being an influencer?

Getting non-scientists hearts to melt over insects.

8) What are some of your top tips to brands for running campaigns? How do you maintain authenticity?

We work for the people, we don’t accept money for anything we do, and we try to maintain high quality pictures, scientific accuracy of the names of animals we use, and keep our thumb on the pulse of the planet.

9) What would your advice be on the importance of quality and original content?

Beautiful photographic techniques of novel subjects intrigue people and drive views for subjects (i.e.., bugs) that no one seems to care about…until they look….

10) What do you like best about partnering with brands?

The best thing is that we don’t accept any money for our work, but allow any user, brand, artist, nature lover, or citizen of any country to use our pictures in any way they like without having to ask our premission.
