1) Tell us a little about yourself. What are you doing now and where do you come from?
My name is CJ Johnson and I’m the CEO and founder of the award-winning digital agency, Januel+Johnson (J+J). I’m also a public speaker and influencer. Based out of Los Angeles, California but you wouldn’t guess it with the amount of time I spend traveling.
2) What are your topics of interest? What do you post on Instagram the most?
Fashion, Entertainment, Tech, Lifestyle, Travel, and Politics. I post inspirational content, portraits, and an inside look into my life as a creative entrepreneur.
3) How did your Instagram name come about?
Nothing too special, I just used my whole name.
4) What are some apps you use to edit your photos? Share with us your photo-editing routine!
I typically edit my photos in Adobe Lightroom and do final touch up’s in Photoshop. I always use VSCO for editing and color grading my shots. Because I’ve been using VSCO for so long I created my own custom looks. That goes the same for any mobile photos I take.
5) Any Instagrammers whom you really like? Which Instagrammer inspires you the most?
Wow, there are so many amazing Instagrammers out there. I’ve become friends with most of the ones I like so much: @chuck, @chris.rivera, @gunnerstahl.us, @ambarjanuel, @streetetiquette are the names of a few.
6) If there’s one thing your fellow Instagrammers just gotta try now, what’s it gonna be?
I’d recommend Instagrammers get better at networking outside of their comfort zone of models and other photographers, and start connecting with other industries so there’s more opportunities to employment and growth as an artist because you’re getting a different perspective on things.
7) What’s your favorite part about being an influencer?
I love inspiring others so it’s the number one thing I enjoy about being an Influencer.
8) What are some of your top tips to brands for running campaigns? How do you maintain authenticity?
This is one of my specialties with my company. Depending on the brand we use a particular strategy. We always want to provide Influencers with creative flexibility and ensure brands are getting what they need from it. At the end of the day it’s about sales for brands. That’s it. They don’t care how many followers you have, what you say, as long as you as an Influencer can prove your worth. No fake numbers. No fake comments. No quoting more than you’re actual worth.
9) What would your advice be on the importance of quality and original content?
It’s important to think outside of the box. One of the biggest things I see that’s been a trend is Instagrammers posting the same type of shots/content. It’s okay to shake it up a bit. Also, there should be much more meaning behind the shots you share. It doesn’t have to be just short phrases, emojis, and you posting a set time every day. It’s okay to post when you have something to say. Also, it’s okay to post content that’s an “#ad” and being genuine about it. Tell your followers you have an opportunity to share a cool new brand with them and you want to share it in a way that’s unique. Don’t just post and then delete later or be boring about it. It actually offends brands a great deal.
10) What do you like best about partnering with brands?
Collaborating with brands and getting more exposure is probably the best part. I also enjoy learning new tactics and ways that brands are trying to be more unique with campaigns.
