Instagram Influencer Spotlight On: David Rigg @our_long_strange_trip

1) Tell us a little about yourself. What are you doing now and where do you come from?

My wife (Lady) and I are born and raised Californians, now permanently residing in lovely Newport, Oregon. We were neighbors. We first met at my 5th birthday party. She hated me back then. Evidently; I was an “Icky boy!” My family moved away and several years later; we met again when I transferred to the same Junior High School. We were “First Loves” and “Soul Mates” from that point on. In High School we went our separate ways; but never lost touch. Just as true “Ships in the Night” we kept in touch as each of us went in/out of other long relationships with others. In 2002; all the stars aligned and we reconnected for the last time. I am now married to my First Love, Soul Mate and Best Friend; enjoying all that life has to offer.

2) What are your topics of interest? What do you post on Instagram the most?

Photography, Outdoors, Nomadic Lifestyle, Retirement, Travel, Exploration, Foraging (including Mushrooms and Berries), Fishing, Southwest Geology and Landscapes, Sunsets, Rainforest, Coastal, Healthy Living, Senior Lifestyle, Architectural, Lighthouses, Landmarks, Hiking, Backpacking, Camping, Marine, Boating, Bodies of Water, Bridges, Buildings, Nature, Naturally Occurring Phenomena, Cityscapes, Reflections, Artistic Wine Photos and anything that might be of interest to our Followers.

3) How did your Instagram name come about?

I am a Grateful Dead fan and the name seemed quite appropriate; given the variety of content on our site.

4) What are some apps you use to edit your photos? Share with us your photo-editing routine!

We use Layout on Instagram. Most of our photos are processed via Lightroom. We have a large library of HDR images. They are quite popular with our Followers.

5) Any Instagrammers whom you really like? Which Instagrammer inspires you the most?

Mommatoldme. That site has been hugely consistent in the way they promote their sponsors and the number of followers that they retain.

6) If there’s one thing your fellow Instagrammers just gotta try now, what’s it gonna be?

To pick up their cameras and cellphones and shoot everything. You, really, never know; when that next great picture might occur. It costs nothing to take the shot. Go ahead….. you can do it!

7) What’s your favorite part about being an influencer?

The challenge of getting to know our loyal Followers; their likes and dislikes and manipulating our content to fit their criteria. Once; we have acquired Sponsored posts, it will be equally fun to deliver content in a new and creative way.

8) What are some of your top tips to brands for running campaigns? How do you maintain authenticity?

Keep the products being featured, tailored directly to the markets that they are targeting. The closer to the demographic; the better! For instance; posting an add for a pair of silk stockings, would not be appropriate for our account. Our followers are more like your purists, who would go “au naturel”; and never restrict themselves with nylons.

9) What would your advice be on the importance of quality and original content?

The quality and originality is what pulls the new Followers into our site. They can see static and mundane images all day long; while scrolling through the endless new posts on Instagram. We only post the very best of our photos. You will notice the vibrance in colors on most of our post (but not all of them). We know; that some of our followers like pastels. So; we deliver an occasional flatter/pastel toned image for their viewing pleasure. Some people like high key and other low key. We do our best to reach out equally to everyone. The more people we appeal to; the better!

10) What do you like best about partnering with brands?

Besides the obvious…. The chance to create new and different content. We will only accept campaigns and post them; if we strongly feel that they will be conducive to sales for our sponsors. This means that; we will only chose to feature products that our Followers will respect and click on; to further investigate.
