Instagram Influencer Spotlight On: Robby van Dalen @robbyvandalenphotography

1) Tell us a little about yourself. What are you doing now and where do you come from?

I’m a Dutchie living in Sydney Australia. I am a photographer, web developer and aspiring film maker (working on my first short film) I love to travel. I always say: “I’ll travel anywhere for a good shot”
I’m afraid of hight, so don’t put me on top of a building… 😉

2) What are your topics of interest? What do you post on Instagram the most?

Various aspects of photography. People, street photography, nature, architecture, macro, everything really.
I don’t want to be doing just the one thing or one style only. Always grow, always learn!

3) How did your Instagram name come about?

It’s simply my name 🙂

4) What are some apps you use to edit your photos? Share with us your photo-editing routine!

I use Adobe Lightroom to catalogue my photos and to edit them, however, I don’t use layers or filters to enhance my photos. I like my photos to be natural and clean and I am always trying to show the viewer my photos as close as it was at the time I took it. I use Whitagram to make a white space around my photos before I post them on Instagram. I think it looks better than the standard Instagram layout where there is no space between the photos you post.

5) Any Instagrammers whom you really like? Which Instagrammer inspires you the most?

In photography I like Dana Walton, I love the way she works with natural light. And I like The Rock, he’s funny but also inspiring.

6) If there’s one thing your fellow Instagrammers just gotta try now, what’s it gonna be?

Olloclip lenses for iPhone!! I love them. I was approached by Olloclip, they asked me to try their products and provided me with a bunch of lenses and the Studio kit for free and I love it!
I use them almost every day.

7) What’s your favorite part about being an influencer?

If I come across a really cool product I get enthusiastic very easily and naturally share that experience or product. I love to tell people about things that get me enthusiastic or help me in everyday life.

8) What are some of your top tips to brands for running campaigns? How do you maintain authenticity?

I’ve seen quite a few instagram account where they ask you to become their ambassador but when you go to their website, you have to pay to become their ambassador, I don’t believe that is a good strategy. With Olloclip for example, they sent me a couple of lenses and the Studio kit for free and asked me to promote it. It blew me away that they sent me stuff for a retail value of US$700. that gave me the EXTRA push to really promote it. Simply because they took effort to invest in me (a photographer) and it made me appreciate Olloclip so much, they’ll get the most boosts and support from me. and because they did that, I promote Olloclip with every photo taken using Olloclip gear. (not all my photos are taken with my iPhone, i have Canon 5D MKII as well)
Maintain authenticity by only promoting your product through genuine people. People who take what they do serious.

9) What would your advice be on the importance of quality and original content?

I only want original and quality content, if you don’t you’re compromising your product. So many Instagram accounts are simply copying other people’s photos. I say, no, go out there and create your own. So I would not recommend to advertise with those accounts, because they are not genuine as such. There a plenty of genuine Instagrammers who share valuable content.

10) What do you like best about partnering with brands?

If they are brands I have affiliation with, it is great to partner up because both would benefit from it. I an help built the brand awareness and they can help grow my portfolio and profile. I would prefer to work towards building a long lasting relationship. I like the interaction between us as well.
