Instagram Influencer Spotlight On: Melissa-Jo Lim @Mjisvicious

1) Tell us a little about yourself. What are you doing now and where do you come from?

What’s up! I am Melissa-Jo and I am originally from Batu Pahat, Johor. I am a DJ based in KL. I am also one half of YangYin, the first female duo in Asia that DJ and perform musical instruments simultaneously.

2) What are your topics of interest? What do you post on Instagram the most?

I post mainly selfies and upcoming events that I will be performing at. I also post clips of myself performing as well as my #OOTD. I always flaunt my tattoos in my photos as well because my followers love to see them.

3) How did your Instagram name come about?

MJ is the short form of my name and Vicious is what my friends often describe me as. Also, I’m a big fan of Sid Vicious from Sex Pistols. Hence, MJisVicious!

4) What are some apps you use to edit your photos? Share with us your photo-editing routine!

Facetune is the way to go! Facetune is great for beautifying skin and most importantly, the quality of the photo is maintained. Sometimes if I am feeling lazy to edit my photos, I will use BeautyCam or YouCam to take a picture as it beautifies the picture automatically.

5) Any Instagrammers whom you really like? Which Instagrammer inspires you the most?

There are too many! My current favourite is @nathelieparis, she is too beautiful! I love @xiaxue because her hair and makeup is always on point. For local instagrammers, my favourite is @damnyoudan, I love her fashion sense!

6) If there’s one thing your fellow Instagrammers just gotta try now, what’s it gonna be?

Use VSCO app to filter your photos. Their filters are amazing! It takes a while to get the hang of it but once you know how to use it, it’s a lot of fun and your photos look amazing.

7) What’s your favorite part about being an influencer?

My favourite part is that I get to meet a lot of new people, whether through social media or just simply being recognised on the street. New people = new friends and new opportunities! I also love the fact that I get to share my thoughts and philosophies with my followers.

8) What are some of your top tips to brands for running campaigns? How do you maintain authenticity?

I think brands should not just choose influencers to represent them just based on popularity alone. The personality of the influencer has to match the brand as well. Same goes for influencer, choosing a brand that you can relate to and believe in will make you more motivated to advertise for them. Do not blindly work with a brand just for the sake of money or free stuff!

9) What would your advice be on the importance of quality and original content?

I think that most importantly is that your photos can convey the message that you want to send effectively, and your caption should always be original and shows your personality! Other than that, the photos must be attractive, obviously, because everyone loves to look at beautiful things.

10) What do you like best about partnering with brands?

It is a great feeling to be a part of something. I especially like to partner with new brands because I like to grow together with the brand.
