Instagram Influencer Spotlight On: Mar Roca @marroam

1) Tell us a little about yourself. What are you doing now and where do you come from?

I can define myself as a fashion enthusiast with attitude, which is always searching for inspiration.
In 10 years from now I can see myself as a fashion designer with my own brand, I always strive to get what I want.
I am currently an exchange student living in Ireland but I am from Barcelona, Spain.
What I like the most is everything to do with fashion, listening to music, traveling, posing in front of the camera and I am a supporter of the Barcelona, Football Club.

2) What are your topics of interest? What do you post on Instagram the most?

My topic of interest is definitely fashion. Instagram pages I follow are fashion designers, brands, fashion icons, models, influencers and of course my friends.
I always have liked to keep my Instagram page in the same topic with all the photos I post and also to highlight my attitude and style.
I want my followers to see my point of view of fashion which is being authentic and to inspire them.
I post photos of my everyday outfits. My camera and phone are essential in my everyday life. Apart from photos of myself and what I wear, I also post quotes and moodboards, that inspire me and my followers.
For me, Instagram is a way to show people from a screen how I feel and show them who I really am.

3) How did your Instagram name come about?

My Instagram name is simply what I am called.
I wanted to have a name so that people recognise me easily. My name comes from part of the second name of my dad (Roca) and of my mum (Ambròs), this is why I am called @marroam on Instagram.

4) What are some apps you use to edit your photos? Share with us your photo-editing routine!

Behind every photo I post there is a lot of “work" involved that I spend a lot of time on. I try to post a photo nearly everyday, normally at night or midday. I like to have an instagram that has a sense and meaning. For this reason I put much thought into every photo I post.
The first step is to take some photos, let’s say of my outfit. Once I taken photos of me in my outfit. I look at photos and choose the one I like and fits the most with my profile. Once I have the photo chosen, with the VSCO cam App I apply brightness and contrast and sometimes a filter. The ones that I usually use are HB1 and C1. When this step is finished, the photo is nearly ready to post. With Pics Art App I brighten the background, so it creates a white look which is perfect and picturesque. When the picture is edited and just ready to post, I use an App called UNUM where you can upload the next photos to post so I can see what they will look like.
So that’s a little of what is behind every photo of mine. There is a lot of time involved, isn’t there?

5) Any Instagrammers whom you really like? Which Instagrammer inspires you the most?

As I said, the majority of the Instagram pages I follow are related to fashion.
Internationally speaking, I have been following Chiara Ferragni (@chiaraferragni) for many years. She is an influencer recognized worldwide and she also has her own brand (@chiaraferragnicollection) which is what I am aspiring to.
Speaking Nationally, about Spain, there are a couple of best friends (@teresaandresgonzalvo & @martalozanop) that catch my attention because of their style.

6) If there’s one thing your fellow Instagrammers just gotta try now, what’s it gonna be?

I would say to travel on your own, living new experiences and seeing new cultures.

7) What’s your favorite part about being an influencer?

I do not consider myself as an influencer. What I like most about this social network personally, is to be able to do what I like, show people what I think and portray my style. Then receive positive feedback.
Sometimes I receive mails or DM’s from girls asking me about fashion tips which I freak out about, because I never thought that I would help someone by doing what I actually love.
I have a goal and I want to reach the point of being able to inspire people.

8) What are some of your top tips to brands for running campaigns? How do you maintain authenticity?

My top tips to brands would be to give as much information as possible about the collaboration they are running. Be clear, understandable, friendly and professional, with all the product details, prices, etc. Being honest and unique is essential.
Personally, maintaining authenticity is working with brands whom you like and are from your style. I will never work with brands that do not stick with me, this would be fake.

9) What would your advice be on the importance of quality and original content?

It is important to be yourself and to be original. In our generation, creativity is the key. Never attempt to copy an instagrammer you like, you can get inspired by her/him when you are going to take a picture or post a text, but always keep your essence. This is what at the end of the day, will make the difference between you and the other Instagram accounts.

10) What do you like best about partnering with brands?

I have partnered with some brands before and it was a very good opportunity. An experience which I never would have imagined.
The first brand which contacted me was during summer 2015 and I remember that I was freaking out. Suddenly they are sending you an email explaining what they would like you to do and that you would be perfect to collaborate with them. So they send you a free product which you have to post, with a series of hashtags. Then they pay you!
The best part about partnering with brands is that you make new connections. Personally, it’s always a pleasure to get the opportunity to do what I love by representing them. It is also interesting to me to see how this whole part of the social network works and to be a part of it.
