Instagram Influencer Spotlight On: Kara @thewhimsysoul

1) Tell us a little about yourself. What are you doing now and where do you come from?

My name is Kara. I’m just a midwest gal who ran away to San Francisco.Wisconsin woodlands where she started her own photography business at the age of 17. I grew up in the Wisconsin woodlands where I started my own photography business at the age of 17. After attending more weddings a year than most people do in a lifetime, I decided to pursue marketing and content creation. I moved to San Francisco after college and currently works with a startup in Silicon Valley and blog on Whimsy Soul. I live with mu fiancé and cat near Golden Gate Park, which I loves because it reminds me of my outdoorsy roots.

2) What are your topics of interest? What do you post on Instagram the most?

Lifestyle, and how fashton, travel and beauty merge together.

3) How did your Instagram name come about?

Whimsy Soul’s mission is to encourage women to “be the best them” through inspiring photos and stories about personal style, travel and lifestyle topics. The Whimsy Soul reader is a woman who has probably been told by mainstream media that she can’t wear certain types of clothing or makeup based on her body type/hair type/skin type, but she fights to stay true to herself anyways. She loves to travel, believing that the world is bigger than her hometown. She picks pizza over salad because that makes her happy, and life is short. And lastly, she always over packs because she knows style can’t be compromised. The name Whimsy Soul seemed to do this justice.

4) What are some apps you use to edit your photos? Share with us your photo-editing routine!

I photograph almost everything on my Canon 6D and then edit on Lightroom with VSCO filters.

5) Any Instagrammers whom you really like? Which Instagrammer inspires you the most?

I have too many favorites to list, but the ones I look forward to are the people who are using their platform for a good purpose, like the purpose of sharing amazing travel photos which helps inspire people to explore outside of their comfort zone, or the diverse girls helping young women realize that beauty comes in all shapes and sizes.

6) If there’s one thing your fellow Instagrammers just gotta try now, what’s it gonna be?

Getting more personal with photos and captions – people love learning about YOU.

7) What’s your favorite part about being an influencer?

I’ve had women email asking for things like tips for moving to a brand new city like I did, or how to travel alone or how to start blogging because they don’t know where to start. I love that Whimsy Soul has created a positive, supportive community.

8) What are some of your top tips to brands for running campaigns? How do you maintain authenticity?

When brands approach an influencer, the best thing they can do is let the influencer run with an idea instead of imposing strict guidelines for a collaboration. Influencers are tapped into their audience. They know better than you what will work and what won’t. Let them create the best story possible for your brand.

9) What would your advice be on the importance of quality and original content?

Quality and original content is important, yes, but also authentic content.

10) What do you like best about partnering with brands?

As an advertising major, I really geek out over the strategy involved with working with brands. I find it incredibly fun to learn about their brand and goals, and craft an authentic story for my readers on Whimsy Soul.
