Instagram Influencer Spotlight On: Justin Aerni @fun_eral

1) Tell us a little about yourself. What are you doing now and where do you come from?

I’m an artist on my way to dethroning Picasso as the most prolific artist that has ever lived and I love more than anything to start out interviews with incredibly ballsy ego inflated self aggrandizing statements. Right now I’m trying to make the best and most culturally important art I can make with my own limited understanding of the world. I was raised in Spokane Washington where I started my art career and later moved to Detroit for a year but then moved to the Portland/Vancouver area where I now reside.

2) What are your topics of interest? What do you post on Instagram the most?

I’m interested in art in all it’s many forms and high fashion in which I could eventually see myself making my own line of clothing. I’m also interested in writing books and generally making and producing anything that I would personally buy or enjoy looking at which is also what I post on Instagram the most.

3) How did your Instagram name come about?

I’m balls deep into the horror genre and I love the dark aesthetic particularly as pertains to entertainment and fine art so I had to go with fun_eral because who ever said funerals can’t be fun too.

4) What are some apps you use to edit your photos? Share with us your photo-editing routine!

I use SuperVideo, Infuse, ReverseVid, Slow Motion and AvFX for my video art clips and PixelArt and SquareFX for my digital art I post. I don’t really have a set routine because each piece is so different.

5) Any Instagrammers whom you really like? Which Instagrammer inspires you the most?

Great question, The Instagrammers I love the most are diane_irby , andyheckboyd7854 , jerrysaltz and tmnk before he died in September. RIP. Connecting with other artists and creating some sense of community is important to me and that is why I will collaborate with any artist that sends me art.

6) If there’s one thing your fellow Instagrammers just gotta try now, what’s it gonna be?

I’ve always been a fan of the GarageBand App. It’s what I used to create all the music for my show Paw’d Cats as well as other videos I’ve put out over the last two years.
As far as cool stuff for artists I recommend stickerapp.com for all your custom sticker needs and lapelpinsuperstore.com for your photo etched pins which are all the rage now.

7) What’s your favorite part about being an influencer?

I just love sharing my art and what excites me about being alive in the 21st century.

8) What are some of your top tips to brands for running campaigns? How do you maintain authenticity?

Try to connect with all of your followers even if it’s just a simple comment on one of their posts. Do it genuinely and take what extra time you have to really know them and what they are interested in. All of your fans are important and are worthy of your time and energy. Give away some free merch and let your audience send in pics to be your models. Word of mouth will always be king whether is 1900 or 2100. You can maintain authenticity by never losing sight of where you came from and the original ideas you started out with.

9) What would your advice be on the importance of quality and original content?

Original content is probably the most important to me personally. I want to show my followers something exciting they can’t see anywhere else. Reserve some content that is just Instagram only. As far as quality I feel like every pic should be magazine standard level. Always take the time to perfect your image instead of pumping out repetitive and shoddy content. Don’t be afraid to be subversive and DYI.

10) What do you like best about partnering with brands?

I see myself as an art pioneer and a futurist. Any brand that encapsulates my personal aesthetic that also pushes boundaries is a brand I would love partnering with.
