1) Tell us a little about yourself. What are you doing now and where do you come from?
My name is Jason Mathews. I am a 27 year old guy from Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. I am passionate about great Australian wine, and discovering some of the less well known wineries around Regional Australia. I am an Electrician by trade, working on construction sites around Melbourne during the day and working relentlessly during my nights and weekends to transition into the Australia wine industry. Launching an online wine store in the coming months at greatestwinefamily.com to deliver some of Australia’s greatest wines to our members
2) What are your topics of interest? What do you post on Instagram the most?
Australia wine, Wine tastings, Wine bottles, Wine of the Weeks (#WoWee), Wine Meme’s, funny wine quotes
3) How did your Instagram name come about?
When I was testing some Facebook ads to try to determine a name for my Business, I entered a default name to start with that basically just described what I was wanting to achieve in the future; create a community of members and followers who wanted to be part of the “Greatest Wine Family” in the world! So, after running weeks and weeks of A/B testing different names for my business I didn’t come up with any conclusive results. In an effort to not delay the launch of my business any further I decided to just stick with what I was using already and what seems to be working, which my first Facebook Page name “The Greatest Wine Family”. Great simple description of what we’re all about hey!?
4) What are some apps you use to edit your photos? Share with us your photo-editing routine!
I typically keep a large stockpile of photos on my phone (Samsung Galaxy S5) and I find this useful for reverting to when I’m desperately in need of something to post.
My process is very simple:
1. I use my phone to take a great shot of the wine that I am drinking at the time. I usually take about 5 photos at different angles and get the glass, bottle, sometimes the wine pour. (HINT: to get a great photo of a wine pour simply shoot a video of it and then take a screenshot of your video)
2. I head straight into Instagram or Later and load the image.
3. I usually apply the Mayfair or Amaro filter and then make minor adjustments if necessary (ie. brightness, contrast, structure)
4. Occasionally I will use the Layout function of Instagram to use multiple images in one post.
5. Hit Post and That’s It!
5) Any Instagrammers whom you really like? Which Instagrammer inspires you the most?
I am most inspired by “Onceuponawine_”, “Womenwholovewine” & “simply.wines”
It is so impressive the Following that they have all been able to achieve and the great engagement from their Followers. They are all posting some really quality content and not only that, but they are consistent and persistent.
Great work guys!
6) If there’s one thing your fellow Instagrammers just gotta try now, what’s it gonna be?
Instagram Business Profile
7) What’s your favorite part about being an influencer?
My favourite part is being able to connect with such a wide audience of like minded people, and the feeling of community and respect. The best part is when I get really good engagement from my Followers because it reminds me that people are actually out there, somewhere in the world, appreciating the content that I am creating.
8) What are some of your top tips to brands for running campaigns? How do you maintain authenticity?
Be honest, put yourself in the shoes of your reader, remember that YOU are not your audience.
Don’t be a salesmen because people don’t use social media to try to be sold something, maintain your authenticity by giving honest representations about who are are, what you do, what you can offer and express feeling. In summary, just be human, be yourself and you will succeed!
9) What would your advice be on the importance of quality and original content?
Content is KING. Original content will ensure that you stand out from the crowd. I admit, it is bloody hard to keep churning out quality and original content, especially when you’re first starting out. Maintain focus about what it is that you are trying to achieve and deliver a clear message about this to your followers. The best way to develop original content is to ask your audience a question.
10) What do you like best about partnering with brands?
Raising awareness about both of our brands in the process. Perhaps by partnering with a well know “household name brand” I can increase the awareness of my brand and increase my following by being associated with other quality people.
