Instagram Influencer Spotlight On: Angelique Vleeshouwers @angeeliek

1) Tell us a little about yourself. What are you doing now and where do you come from?

Hello, i’m a 23 year old short haired girl living in Ghent, but my roots are in the countryside. At the moment i’m studying marketing at uni (my previous study was Psychology), but i’m also a certified make up artist (studied at Makeup Designory). Makeup and Marketing (m&m) are my two greatest passions and i love combining them and experiment with them.

2) What are your topics of interest? What do you post on Instagram the most?

My main topic when my IG got more attention was Makeup and Beauty. But the last year i also added more Lifestyle pieces. I think it gives a more reliable and realistic feeling to it. I want people to feel cosy and happy when they see my feed. I also try to put a sense of humor in my pictures, because we don’t have to take life so seriously all the time. I really try to create that ‘hey, It’s OK’ vibe.

3) How did your Instagram name come about?

It’s my name (Angélique) but phonetically written.

4) What are some apps you use to edit your photos? Share with us your photo-editing routine!

For selfies: first Facetune, second VSCO and sometimes i use the IG filters to finish off.
Objects, beauty products, Landscapes,… : VSCO and IG filters.

5) Any Instagrammers whom you really like? Which Instagrammer inspires you the most?

My all time favorite youtuber Estée Lalonde, she’s my greatest inspiration: day to day life and how to get the most out of it. She makes me love the little things in life like walking my dog on a beautiful autumn day and doing my makeup routine in the morning.
But i also enjoy instagrammers like Bryanadamc and Jannikobenhoff. They make the most beautiful landscape pictures ever! Makes me wanna travel and enjoy nature to its fullest.

6) If there’s one thing your fellow Instagrammers just gotta try now, what’s it gonna be?

The Urban Decay ‘Perversion’ Mascara, for real! As a makeup artist i often use this mascara with brides who don’t really want to wear fake lashes. For myself, when i’m in a rush but still want to wear a little makeup, i put this mascara on and my lashes look FABULOUS and it only takes one coat (or more if you like). You get it right?

7) What’s your favorite part about being an influencer?

Having my own voice in the social media marketing world. I also like to challenge myself in finding effective ways to communicate the product to the audience when i really like it. It’s a mission accomplished when people say “hey, i saw your review on product x and went straight to the stores because you totally convinced me”. Another great reason is to help those women/men who don’t want to spent time on selfcare and beauty because they simply don’t know HOW to do it. The greatest example is my mom. When we go shopping i convince her to buy products of which i know will make her feel more womanly and beautiful, products she often didn’t know exist. She just needs that little push, and at home i see how much she enjoys it.

8) What are some of your top tips to brands for running campaigns? How do you maintain authenticity?

Stay genuine. I think it’s super beneficial to sometimes post a less perfect picture (of yourself or other things) just to keep the realness alive. That’s what makes a product more desirable i believe, that it’s NOT ONLY for the models and celebrities but for everyday people.

9) What would your advice be on the importance of quality and original content?

Don’t post the first thing that comes to mind but really think about it. What do you want to put out there? When will you do it (because there’s always the danger of oversharing which bores some people)? When i have an idea, i take almost 200 pictures from the same thing in different angles. First i delete all the really bad and similar ones, then i TRY to leave my gallery for a few hours. After a few hours i take a look back and most of the time i have a more clear view of which pic i really like and if it fits in my feed.

10) What do you like best about partnering with brands?

I actually really love this new way of marketing because it’s more honest and real. When i studied Psychology at uni i learned that people think recommendations of persons with whom they can rely the most and/or identify with, look more reliable than your classic commercial on tv. I think it’s a smart way of putting your products in the world and trying to communicate with your target audience. What i like the best about is to give the brand my voice to help them communicate with their target audience, which i also created for myself. I love being a part of this cycle.
