Instagram Influencer Spotlight On: Ammaarah Patel @ammaarah.patel

1) Tell us a little about yourself. What are you doing now and where do you come from?

I attend Kingsmead College in Rosebank. I am nearing the end of my high school experience now, I’m in matric. I’ve lived in Johannesburg my whole life but I’ve been fortunate enough to explore the world. My pursuit of photography is recent but I’ve always had a passion for story-telling.

2) What are your topics of interest? What do you post on Instagram the most?

I like my aesthetic to reflect my life. So I would post photos of myself as well as photographs I’ve taken. My favourite type of photos would be portraits, i think that portraits have the most soul. But I’ve been exploring my style more, so my posts are as wild as me really.

3) How did your Instagram name come about?

As I haven’t found my style yet, I haven’t picked a suitable name. But I’m open to all suggestions 🙂

4) What are some apps you use to edit your photos? Share with us your photo-editing routine!

I use mostly VSCO cam and Lightroom. I try to stray from common edits and use editing to enhance the story I’m trying to tell. I’ve been very interested in adding the granule effect, this allows for my photos to be more vintage. I also enjoy just simply enhancing my photographs, it makes them look more attainable but still ethereal.

5) Any Instagrammers whom you really like? Which Instagrammer inspires you the most?

I look up to Cole Sprouse a lot, his photos tell such incredible stories. I also enjoy jesseherzog, littlecoal and 1st’s photos. They’re definitely worth checking out.

6) If there’s one thing your fellow Instagrammers just gotta try now, what’s it gonna be?

They have to put out on social media platforms what they want the world to see of them. They have to try to photograph their favourite person or their favourite place and tell their stories.

7) What’s your favorite part about being an influencer?

I’ve always wanted to make a change and with my future being right around the corner, I’m happy that I’ve already started to influence people’s lives. My favourite part would be that people enjoy my work and that I’m affecting them, I love to see that I have made my mark.

8) What are some of your top tips to brands for running campaigns? How do you maintain authenticity?

I think it’s just not to forgot that you are marketing something. And to continue to alter your subject according to what you want to get across. You need to still show the public what you have to offer, but entice them at the same time. The best way to stay authentic is to be the potential buyer, and to ask yourself what would you like to see?

9) What would your advice be on the importance of quality and original content?

Plagiarism is the lowest low, I’m certain no one wants to be like Melania Trump. So stay true your style of photography and never give into pressure. The best work is accomplished when you’re at peace and you know what you want.

10) What do you like best about partnering with brands?

Truthfully, it’s like being a part of a massive photoshoot and being the photograph that everyone wants to be in. Partnering with brands opens many more doors for other photography opportunities and to explore working with new people and meeting new personalities. It is always a great pat on the back.
