Instagram Influencer Spotlight On: Zachary LaRoque @focalities

1) Tell us a little about yourself. What are you doing now and where do you come from?

My name is Zach and I was born and raised in Long Beach, Ca. I bought my first dslr in 8th grade and have never stopped shooting photos since then. I am a freelance photographer and creative thinker.

2) What are your topics of interest? What do you post on Instagram the most?

My favorite thing to shoot/post on social media would definitely have to be landscapes. I love the earth and all the beautiful things it allows us to see. I’m also very into lifestyle and street portraits as well. The street portraits are something I want to shoot a lot more then I do.

3) How did your Instagram name come about?

Focalities came after fatalities or casualty…but focal. As in murdering my focus. Murdering in a good way, like “dang dude you killed this shot” 😉

4) What are some apps you use to edit your photos? Share with us your photo-editing routine!

Depending on what type of shot or what type of work I’m doing I love Lightroom 5 on my Mac. If its simply for a quick post on instagram I use photoshop express and often times vsco.

5) Any Instagrammers whom you really like? Which Instagrammer inspires you the most?

I am a huge fan of trashhand, littlecoal, my friend erwnchow, coleyounger, etc. I find trashhand to be a huge influence because his style is insane and his shots are so well edited and all the locations he shoots are places I’d love to go.

6) If there’s one thing your fellow Instagrammers just gotta try now, what’s it gonna be?

Set up your camera on a tripod in the mountains or desert when theres no moon, and do 30 second exposures on repeat for an hour..take all 120 frames and layer then in Photoshop.

7) What’s your favorite part about being an influencer?

The good vibe I get from peoples reactions to my work. I love making people feel good in whatever way, so if someone is intrigued by my photos then I feel success.

8) What are some of your top tips to brands for running campaigns? How do you maintain authenticity?

Genuinely reach out to influencers like you really do want them to do work for you. Don’t copy and paste emails 😉

9) What would your advice be on the importance of quality and original content?

It’s easy to be influenced by others through social media, especially at such iconic locations. But believe you are who you are and no matter how similar you shoot to someone else there’s still something unique about how you did it.

10) What do you like best about partnering with brands?

My first partnership was with @happysocksoffical and its really interesting because I do love socks obviously, but at amazing locations I do like to take photos of my shoes with something amazing in the background, so having fun socks to show is perfect. I simply enjoy something new to be creative with in my images
