Instagram Influencer Spotlight On: Yoomi Park @Yoomsters

1) Tell us a little about yourself. What are you doing now and where do you come from?

I just recently moved to NYC from my home state of Texas. I grew up in San Antonio and lived in Austin for 7 during college and post college. I’m a filmmaker by trade and education but also have a sport management degree. I have interests ranging from music to shows to food, fashion, and travel. I’m a freelance photographer that loves to shoot portraits and live music concerts.

2) What are your topics of interest? What do you post on Instagram the most?

I do a lot of outfit of the day photos, which tend to be my highest engaged content, but I also post a lot of traveling shots and portraits. Depending on the artist, I get a lot of hit from my professional work. As a masculine of center, person of color, my personal style is something that a lot of people are interested in and are trying to emulate.

3) How did your Instagram name come about?

It’s the first nickname I ever got from classmates back in elementary school. It’s been stuck to me for a very long time and really personifies me and the fun-loving personable person I am.

4) What are some apps you use to edit your photos? Share with us your photo-editing routine!

I have a set routine for sure. I use snapseed for any blemishes or basic edits, Afterlight to bring out shadows in a way that creates a film look with adding fake grain filters, and vsco cam to really make colors pop in interesting ways.

5) Any Instagrammers whom you really like? Which Instagrammer inspires you the most?

I love to follow a lot of menswear bloggers like @prestonkonrad and @iamgalla. I also follow tons of commercial/advertising photographers, like @edsel and @johnkeatley for inspiration to see where my work needs to be. I also follow lifestyle bloggers and travel photographers like @mikegquinn and @beautifuldestinations. I also follow musicians and specifically their tour photographers like @gradybrannan, @ravieb, @andrewrose, @rorykramer, and @macshoop.

6) If there’s one thing your fellow Instagrammers just gotta try now, what’s it gonna be?

I think cinemagraphs are making a mobile comeback. Some people have become real artists with it and it’s really beautiful what people have come up with. It adds just enough flair without getting too gimmicky.

7) What’s your favorite part about being an influencer?

It’s being able to see people really trying out the stuff you suggest. Whether it’s a new brand, a new fit, or a new item introduced into their wardrobe, just seeing I can have a positive effect on someone is really amazing. Also seeing people inspired to get out and follow their dreams of traveling is really cool too. Sometimes you just need that one person telling you that you don’t need permission to go for it.

8) What are some of your top tips to brands for running campaigns? How do you maintain authenticity?

I think brands just really need to find a way to let influencers really figure out the best way to post about them in a way that truly fits their profile and lifestyle. The people in our audience are incredibly intelligent and aware and the moment they feel like it’s being forced, they get turned off and annoyed. It’s really a fine line to balance. I maintain authenticity by being picky about what I’m going to be backing. If it’s not something I actually find myself using or it’s not something that fits into my #aesthetic, I just don’t feel it’s authentic for me to be backing it.

9) What would your advice be on the importance of quality and original content?

So many people are trying to the same thing. They think all the right equipment can help them reach their goals, sometimes they just post whatever, which is okay too, but I feel that being deliberate and considerate about what you’re putting out into the world is how you maintain integrity and gain a respectful audience. Part of that is really always remembering to have photo credits if you’re partnering with an artist that makes you look great and always using your own stuff. Stealing gives a very bad look.

10) What do you like best about partnering with brands?

It opens up my world too. I’m human and sometimes I can get stuck in my ways or not notice the next big thing because I just haven’t tried it myself. I’m brand loyal too but if I give a partnership with a new brand a shot, and I fall in love with it, whether it’s the service quality or the product quality, I usually become a fan for life as well. I enjoy being exposed to the new things our world comes up with. The opportunities become endless.
