Instagram Influencer Spotlight On: Tamia Overes @tamiaoveres

1) Tell us a little about yourself. What are you doing now and where do you come from?

Hey! My name is Tamia and I’m from Vancouver, Canada. I’m a local tattoo artist, and I’m currently in the process of opening up my first studio. I’ve been passionate about visual art since grade school, and even pursued art and business in post secondary. Im happy to be able to share my journey to my followers and friends on Instagram.

2) What are your topics of interest? What do you post on Instagram the most?

I currently post photos of makeup looks the most. Besides tattooing, I’m super passionate about makeup and experimenting with new products. I also love to travel, and often share photos and videos from my trips, as well!

3) How did your Instagram name come about?

My Instagram username is just my name: Tamia Overes. Nothing too special here.

4) What are some apps you use to edit your photos? Share with us your photo-editing routine!

My favorite app to use to edit my photos is called ColourTone. It’s sort of like LightRoom, but I find I like this app better. There’s lots of filter pre-sets to help make the lighting in my photos look better. I always like making all my photos have the same ‘vibe’ so I use the same pre-sets on each photo!

5) Any Instagrammers whom you really like? Which Instagrammer inspires you the most?

Where do I even begin. There’s so many Instagrammers who inspire me. A few of my current favourites include: @ssssamantha, @jamiegenevieve, and @linabugz. They all showcase authenticity and originality which is what I love the most about them. They’re all unique to who they are, and they don’t pretend to be anyone they’re not.

6) If there’s one thing your fellow Instagrammers just gotta try now, what’s it gonna be?

My fellow Instagrammers have to start using IGTV. I feel like so many people don’t use this feature on IG enough, and it’s a really good place to market products/services or even give your followers more insight on who you are! It’s definitely something I need to be using more too.

7) What’s your favorite part about being an influencer?

It’s funny because I don’t consider myself an “influencer.” By career I’m a tattoo artist/business owner, but growing my Instagram account is something that has been super fun and exciting that has happened over the past 2 years. I love being able to promote a positive message to my followers and create friendships with the people who view my content. I’ve made so many friendships with people who follow me, and it’s always so much fun talking with others about makeup and fashion. I also love spreading positivity and having a platform to spread awareness about issues that may not be spoken about in mainstream media.

8) What are some of your top tips to brands for running campaigns? How do you maintain authenticity?

Brands need to continue being professional, while adapting to the new age of people on the internet. Companies that use humour in their campaigns always tend to do better (in my option) in regards to the ‘reach’ of their audience. Wendy’s, for example, grew their Twitter account simply by being funny and edgy. Companies need to take bolder steps to reach new audiences, while also being inclusive to people of every ethnicity, sexuality, religion, etc.

9) What would your advice be on the importance of quality and original content?

Original content is so hard to come by these days. It’s very important for creators to stay true to themselves and create content for their viewers that is unique. So many people copy one another, that originality really stands out these days. Staying true to yourself and creating content that is ‘out of the box’ is the key to being successful in this industry.

10) What do you like best about partnering with brands?

I love partnering with brands to showcase amazing products/services/companies to my followers. Many of my followers may have not heard of the products/services/companies that I promote, which is why brand partnerships are a great opportunity for exposure. I never promote brands that I don’t believe in, which is also why my followers can trust me when I do vouch for a product.
