Instagram Influencer Spotlight On: Stevie Froese @187779104 @novemberseven

1) Tell us a little about yourself. What are you doing now and where do you come from?

A former ballerina, and then news anchor (weird shift eh?), I now create analytics-based social media strategy for creatives. That’s where I make my money, but were I truly live is in the outdoors. Whether it’s a backyard garden party, or summiting 2,926 meters to the peak of the BC/Alberta border. I love to photograph that outdoors and people in the outdoors.
It’s those epic weekend kayak trips, the trip to the ski hill, or the bike ride to the end of the pier to watch the sunset that inspires my creative outlets. I love to paint, create, and bring my imagination to light on experiential video.

2) What are your topics of interest? What do you post on Instagram the most?

My posts are always centred on three things:
– Art
– The outdoors
– Life on Canada’s West Coast
I post a lot of pictures of hikes, mountains, on the water, exploring the outdoors. I also post finished paintings that usually sell in 24-48 hours (or more recently a flower crown I made that I got 15 orders for now haha). I also will occasionally post something that has to do with my life on Canada’s West Coast. Many of my posts feature a person who I find inspiring. I occasionally step in front of the camera to showcase my outfit, personality, or achievement.

3) How did your Instagram name come about?

@novemberseven. It’s my birthday, sometimes it’s my name. Before I was active on Instagram (I was just a lurker for a long, long time) I worked at a bar in Saskatoon where we had to wear picture ID nametags. There were some shady characters that would come in and then try to add me on all the social media channels they could. I changed my name to my birthday so that people who knew me could still find me easily. It grew into a nickname from there and now a lot of people just call me November Seven, or November. I also sign all my artwork with November Seven. It’s my Nom de Plume so to speak.

4) What are some apps you use to edit your photos? Share with us your photo-editing routine!

I frequently use Gimp or Snapseed to edit my photos as I want my content to be more true to what my mind’s eye sees than to reality. When it comes to portraits, or almost any photography involving faces, I try to minimize or forego editing completely. I think people should look like who they are and not a photoshopped fake person. For video, I will sometimes use a video editor to link smaller clips together and add ambience music.

5) Any Instagrammers whom you really like? Which Instagrammer inspires you the most?

I really love @jamieout. His photography is usually quite imaginative, although I find it quite repetitive.
@laurengrebinski is great at keeping it interesting and unique while creating a fresh and clean look to her posts.
@michealla.shannon is an inspirational model who brings honour to Canada’s First Nations with her authentic modelling, lifestyle posts, and honest story.
@natgeo just has the most interesting content I’ve ever seen on Instagram. It may be a curation age, but the do a hell of a good job with it.

6) If there’s one thing your fellow Instagrammers just gotta try now, what’s it gonna be?

Rubber boots. Lol. I have a few pairs from Canadian Tire (The men’s. Which are way better than the flimsy, slippery women’s boots everyone always tries to push on me.) They’re so great for getting you through the mud, dust, rocks, sand, puddles, to get the better-than-great shot. I honestly wear them everywhere. Even when I bring other shoes to put on, I usually end up just wearing the boots becuase they look fucking cute with everything when you’re outdoors. That being said, I’m no stranger to elegant high heels either :).

7) What’s your favorite part about being an influencer?

I must have a complex, because I truly think I live life better than most poeple. I love my body, I’m physically fit, I take pride in being kind to others without letting myself down, I work hard, I get shit done, and I still have time to chase the sunset. My way of life, my lifestyle, my personality, my style and my artists brian have a lot to give. When someone tells me they’ve been inspired by soemthing I do, say, or highlight, oh boy, there’s nothing better than that feeling.

8) What are some of your top tips to brands for running campaigns? How do you maintain authenticity?

I am not a sales person. I don’t ever intend to be. If you want me to post a picture of a branded backpack and then pitch it in the comments in an obvious way, I’m not your girl. And frankly, you’re doing it wrong. I use influencer marketing for my clients and there is way more return on your invetment when you get that person to instead incorperate your item/cause/activity into thier life. That same branded backpack being featured on a beautiful hike, with me incorperating it into a darn-cool outfit, and then havng some video, or carasol pictures using the pack, is going to be way more attractive to an audience. I sell a lot of my own stuff on Instagram, and this non-sales-person way always yeailds a return. It should look effortless, not obvious.

9) What would your advice be on the importance of quality and original content?

Original and user sourced content is so key. It tells your intended customer two things: 1. That the product is tried and true. 2. That it’s popular. You can’t tell a customer your roduct is loved, you have to show them, or lead them to ‘make thier own conclusions.’ We all know we’re relly tellng them what to think, but as consumers, we all want to belive we’ve come to the conclusion on our own.

10) What do you like best about partnering with brands?

Beside being compensated for puming up a product/service/event/charity that I already want to love, it’s a great way to distinguish your own brand. It’s people that sell products, not the products themselves. What a beautiful world where I can help out a brand I love and get some help in return.
