Instagram Influencer Spotlight On: Sonja Delicana @sondeli

1) Tell us a little about yourself. What are you doing now and where do you come from?

My name’s Sonja and I’m a 21-year-old aspiring nurse studying at University of California, Irvine. Although my future career lies in health care, I like to dedicate my free time to my artistic pursuits such as writing, fashion, beauty, and photography. I come from a family of artists, so art has always played a major role in my childhood and adolescence, but nowadays my primary creative outlet is fashion/makeup.

2) What are your topics of interest? What do you post on Instagram the most?

My main content revolves around my personal style and beauty regimen, but I’ll throw in a little bit of lifestyle in there, too… like shots of aesthetically pleasing desserts. I’m also an art geek, so going to museums and art installations are some ideal ways to pass time.

3) How did your Instagram name come about?

It surprises me every time when people, especially those who are close to me, still ask what my username means because it’s essentially just my first and last name combined – SONja DELIcana.

4) What are some apps you use to edit your photos? Share with us your photo-editing routine!

The key to selfie etiquette is lighting, so I’m always looking for a good source of natural light as much as I can so that I won’t have to rely heavily on photo editing. For minor tweaks, my go-to is definitely Afterlight if I ever need to increase the brightness, lower the temperature, define clarity, or sharpen the details. Sometimes, even the Instagram editor works just fine!

5) Any Instagrammers whom you really like? Which Instagrammer inspires you the most?

I follow quite a lot of fashionistas and beauty gurus, but some of my top picks would have to be @ellenvlora, @flamcis, @viviannn_v, @lilymaymac, and @kathleenlights. All of these young women are girl bosses who have accomplished so much using their platforms yet they remain super grounded.

6) If there’s one thing your fellow Instagrammers just gotta try now, what’s it gonna be?

See the Infinity Mirrored Room by Yayoi Kusama. It’s only a 45-second exhibit but it’s truly breathtaking!

7) What’s your favorite part about being an influencer?

Collaborating with brands I’ve been following for years as well as discovering new ones is always an honor. Being inspired by fellow influencers is also one of my favorite things about the Instagram community.

8) What are some of your top tips to brands for running campaigns? How do you maintain authenticity?

Honesty is a vital aspect of gaining a loyal following. Working with brands you truly support displays authenticity because it’s a reflection of what you stand for, so I’d say stick with what inspires you and use that to empower others.

9) What would your advice be on the importance of quality and original content?

Producing quality and original content is what sets you apart from thousands of influencers, so I think finding your own voice/style/ideas should be the first priority. It’s not something that happens overnight; it definitely takes a lot of time and effort so just be patient and committed.

10) What do you like best about partnering with brands?

I love coming across creative campaigns and brands with a cause. They give me further motivation to do something different while still staying true to my work.
