1) Tell us a little about yourself. What are you doing now and where do you come from?
I’m an illustrator and character designer from Sao Paulo, Brazil. I do freelance work for books (specially children’s books), films (character design), and other kinds of illustrations.
My business is growing thanks to social media. As my social media grows, my business grows, which makes me passionate about creating content to share online.
Right now I’m working on a children’s book series called Science Wide Open, which is a success on Kickstarter!
2) What are your topics of interest? What do you post on Instagram the most?
My topics of interests are mostly artistic, such as: illustration, animation, character design, children’s books. Also mindset for artists. Those are things I post the most. That’s what my business is all about.
But my interests go beyond that. I love yoga and a mindful lifestyle. The subconscious mind fascinates me. As vegan, I also believe in animal rights. I can say I’m a feminist too and I love all things that empowers women, specially young girls. I believe we attract what we are. And that’s magic. We get the energy that we put out. Like The Beatles said: “In the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make”. Oh! And yeah, I also love music.
3) How did your Instagram name come about?
My instagram name is actually my name (Danielle Pioli) which is the name of my business, plus the word ART so people would know what I’m all about, what they should expect to see in their feed when they follow me.
There’s nothing magical or profound about it. haha
4) What are some apps you use to edit your photos? Share with us your photo-editing routine!
Since I’m an illustrator, I don’t edit much in my phone. When I do digital work, it’s pretty much done when I save the final image.
When I take pictures of traditional work, I like editing a bit. I use Snapseed when it’s a more finished illustration. But if it’s just a sketch, I edit it directly on Instagram.
5) Any Instagrammers whom you really like? Which Instagrammer inspires you the most?
I really like a lot of them. To name a few, @theanimatedlife, @loisvb, @charmaineolivia, @lorazombie, @ohnonatalie, @sweeney_boo, @audraauclair, @valentinepasche, @phobso, @pascalcampionart – those are art-related. Only a few of the artists that I admire, and as consequence, have amazing Instagram pages!
6) If there’s one thing your fellow Instagrammers just gotta try now, what’s it gonna be?
The decision to take it seriously. That will bring consistency in the posts, quality content, authenticity. When you make that decision, all those things I mentioned (and more) come with it and you see the results you want a lot quicker.
If you treat Instagram, or any social media, as a hobby to kill time, that’s what it always going to be. Which is OK if that’s what you want, but sad for all the doors that can be opened to you.
7) What’s your favorite part about being an influencer?
In such noisy and busy times, it’s nice to be able to put your message out there and make it your way. It’s nice to see people getting together to hit a “like” button to what you share, because every post is something you expose about yourself. And like-minded people joining the conversation and becoming an audience is powerful. So it’s not about being an influencer, but about the possibilities it brings.
8) What are some of your top tips to brands for running campaigns? How do you maintain authenticity?
I think believing in the message is very important for authenticity, no matter what it is. So if your running a campaign, the best thing you can do is believe in it yourself and work with people who also believe in it. Authenticity is when we are comfortable being true. So truth speaks louder than fake messages that we are so tired of. Being authentic, being comfortable being ourselves and speaking our truth allow us to be creative. And who doesn’t like creative?
9) What would your advice be on the importance of quality and original content?
Quality work is what will make you pop up from the crowd. It takes years of study and practice and dedication, but it pays off.
Originality comes from creativity. Creativity is not something one simply “learn”. You might learn methods to spark creativity, but it’s never a switch button. It’s something you cultivate, you start understanding where it comes from, and you have to align yourself to that. I always do my best work when I’m in the most relaxed state. But that is me. It works differently for everybody, but original is another thing that attracts the eyes of people.
So mixing both quality and originality is only a matter of time before you reach the success you want.
10) What do you like best about partnering with brands?
I love collaboration work because it’s two (or more) universes colliding to create something new. The best thing is that what is presented to those audiences and those tribes is usually something they will receive with an open heart, because someone they trust is presenting it to them. So the resistance is lowered, the prejudice is muted, and they can enjoy something different and learn something from it, or discover another world, that may lead to something awesome in their lives. Who knows? The possibilities are endless.
That is the mindset we should have all the time, but we don’t. So these kinds of collaborations are beautiful for bringing that back to us.
