1) Tell us a little about yourself. What are you doing now and where do you come from?
I am currently working on a new business venture with a men’s clothing and lifestyle boutique. I started a business after I graduated from Bryant University. I am also keeping myself busy with a few other opportunities within the fashion/modeling industry. I’m originally from New Jersey but I spent quite a bit of time in New York where most of my family is.
2) What are your topics of interest? What do you post on Instagram the most?
My topics of interest include art, fashion, travel, and the outdoors. I’m very balanced. As much as I like fashion and art, I am still inspired by the simplistic nature of the outdoors.
3) How did your Instagram name come about?
My name is Shavoy but people call me Voy for short. Then I just added my initials after it, “SL” which stands for Shavoy Lawrence.
4) What are some apps you use to edit your photos? Share with us your photo-editing routine!
I mostly find myself using Vsco which is my favorite. One of the things I try to do is not over-edit. I want my photos to pop with color but not too much so that it’s too loud or disruptive for the viewer. My routine is always somewhat different but I like using the contrast and shadows to my advantage to bring out pictures that are a bit dull.
5) Any Instagrammers whom you really like? Which Instagrammer inspires you the most?
I really like the bigadel Instagram page. He’s an image consultant/fashion blogger that travels a lot and takes a lot of photographs with really cool backgrounds.
6) If there’s one thing your fellow Instagrammers just gotta try now, what’s it gonna be?
Create more. With social media, the world is at your fingertips. You never know who might come across your content or who you might inspire.
7) What’s your favorite part about being an influencer?
My favorite part about being an influencer is being able to give back a little part of me back to the world. Someone somewhere is watching and can take something away from my experiences/challenges/successes and that’s what life is really about. Inspire and be inspired.
8) What are some of your top tips to brands for running campaigns? How do you maintain authenticity?
Keep it organic. Never try to do too much. Just be yourself.
9) What would your advice be on the importance of quality and original content?
Quality and originality is very important. Though a person can be inspired by the art of someone else it’s never really okay to copy or steal someone else’s work and pose it as your own. Besides, people respect what’s original in the sense of something new, and not something that’s just recycled. If a person is going to recycle an idea, make it better.
10) What do you like best about partnering with brands?
My favorite part about partnering with brands is creating something new…there’s a saying, two heads are better than one and in a sense it’s the same thing. The brand is the bigger entity but the influencer is what gets the people (the consumer) going. I like being able to connect with consumers on a base level where it’s not just the brand itself but people that are just like them and that’s why people gravitate to brands. People like brands that somewhat identify with who they are. I like bridging that gap.
