1) Tell us a little about yourself. What are you doing now and where do you come from?
My name is Quincy Megas and I am from Johannesburg South Africa. I am a musician, entertainer and poet. I enjoy being a rising Instagram influencer in Johannesburg. Although Instagram does not have as many users as Facebook and Twitter in my country, I enjoy being one of the pioneers of posting interesting content among young people. This is especially true because I aim to create content that is engaging and that people can relate to and enjoy. As I have started to focus on my Instagram presence more over the past few weeks I have seen my follower count continue to rise consistently. I am hoping to keep on producing content and engaging with other influencers as well. What sets me apart from most other influencers is my high level of engagement with those who follow me and like my content.
2) What are your topics of interest? What do you post on Instagram the most?
My topics of interest are music, poetry and art. As an up and coming musician I use Instagram to share interesting content with those who follow me as well as engage with them. This is helping me to build up a base of very interactive followers.
3) How did your Instagram name come about?
My Instagram name (Quincy Megas) is my stage name as well. “Megas” is derived from Alexander The Great while Quincy is my first name. This leaves me with a very catchy name that is also very easy for people to remember.
4) What are some apps you use to edit your photos? Share with us your photo-editing routine!
I use various apps to edit my pictures depending on what I am going for. I make use of “Pic Monkey” for most pictures related to the cover art of one of my songs. For other images I use “Snapseed” due to its versatility and high number of unique effects and functions. For my poetry posts I make use of a generic notepad app on my phone. I also make use of Instagram’s “Layout” app.
5) Any Instagrammers whom you really like? Which Instagrammer inspires you the most?
My biggest inspiration on Instagram has got to be @mijares because as an artist myself I can really relate to him. I am also impressed by the high rate of engagement which his posts receive.
6) If there’s one thing your fellow Instagrammers just gotta try now, what’s it gonna be?
Well, they just have to know about StarNgage of course. As one of the early adopters of Instagram in South Africa it is important for me to collaborate with my fellow micro influencers in order to begin to expand our Instagram community. This is so that we can all share meaningful content in our various niches in order to keep Instagram as vibrant as it is.
7) What’s your favorite part about being an influencer?
I really like being able to reach many people with a single post. I also like being able to share my own perspective as well as be part of setting new trends and being an early adopter of new styles and concepts.
8) What are some of your top tips to brands for running campaigns? How do you maintain authenticity?
Step one is to ensure that you are producing meaningful content. People on Instagram are more demanding of authenticity than on other platforms. People can smell content which is too “marketing related” a mile away and this turns them off. So be engaging, be creative, be fun but most of all be as authentic as possible. Interact and really allow people to get close to your brand and feel as though they are part of the story too.
9) What would your advice be on the importance of quality and original content?
Quality and meaningful content is what users are after on Instagram. This is why quality and authenticity are so important. Users tend to gravitate towards content that they feel has a genuine message or intention, whatever it may be. Even if it is just to make people laugh. With this in mind it is important for brands and influencers to put their “audience” first and provide them with content that they will be interested in.
10) What do you like best about partnering with brands?
Strategic collaborations can be very good for both parties when done correctly. They have to seem organic and not just look like “another marketing or PR stunt” in order to be the most effective. My favorite part about collaborations is that they allow both the brand and the influencer to interact. This means that both audiences of the two parties interact too thus growing both the brand as well as the influencers audience resulting in more visibility. Partnering with brands also offers a unique opportunity to produce one-of-a-kind content that could otherwise not be achieved by either party alone. This is why partnering is such a powerful way of building engagement on Instagram.
