Instagram Influencer Spotlight On: Queen Bempz (Angela) @queenbempz

1) Tell us a little about yourself. What are you doing now and where do you come from?

My name is Angela, but I go by Queen Bempz on social media. I am an aspiring content creator and entrepreneur. Right now, I am currently in school pursuing my film undergrad at Carleton U. It’s a pretty awesome degree to be in cause we get to watch movies 24/7 and learn neat things about film history. My end goal with my degree, is to hopefully do freelance video editing. I was born and raised in Ottawa, Canada. My background is Ghanaian. So, I guess you could say I’m African Canadian? haha!

2) What are your topics of interest? What do you post on Instagram the most?

For starters, I absolutely LOVE food, so sometimes you will catch me posting pictures of the foods I am currently munching on. I also really enjoy music, fashion, photography, travel and lifestyle content. So, I’d say, I like a little bit of everything 🙂 I also tend to post alot of selfies because what’s Instagram without a couple selfies? lol 🙂

3) How did your Instagram name come about?

My Instagram name came about because I love to regard myself as a Queen. I feel like women in our generation lack the empowerment and love that they need within themselves. So, I just love to promote that and feel like every woman should regard themselves as such. In terms of the ‘Bempz’ part, it is the short form of my last name and was actually created by my cousin 🙂

4) What are some apps you use to edit your photos? Share with us your photo-editing routine!

My GO TO apps are VSCO cam and Airbrush. I love to use airbrush to brush away the pimples I may have – cause you know, sometimes you may have that amazing selfie that could be a 10 if only the pimple weren’t there. So, Airbrush comes to play and I also use it to smoothen my face a bit too, for a more polished and professional look 🙂 I use Vsco Cam to edit my photos in terms of the brightness, contrast, sharpness, and I also use the filters on there too. They have some of, if not, the BEST filters for taking photos. The interface is stellar! and a must have for any millenial 🙂

5) Any Instagrammers whom you really like? Which Instagrammer inspires you the most?

There are many Instagrammers that I really like, but if I had to name a few, I would say crystalwestbrooks. I love crystalwestbrooks, because she reminds me of myself in so many ways. We are both lowkey women who are not particularly fond of too much makeup. We both like to keep to ourself and believe in always being positive, loving, trusting God and being ambitious. I love them both and they inspire me the most to be myself and do dope ish! haha!

6) If there’s one thing your fellow Instagrammers just gotta try now, what’s it gonna be?

Hmm.. this is a real tough one because I’m not really trying or testing out anything, but if I really had to choose, I’d say sugarbear vitamins. Now, I haven’t personally tried them, but I’ve heard alot of good things about them and have really been wanting to try them out myself 🙂 Plus they look so cute and probably taste cute too! lol!

7) What’s your favorite part about being an influencer?

I don’t regard myself as an influencer YET, because I am still fairly small. I’m still growing, learning and discovering new ways of promoting my brand and reaching a farther audience. What I can say though, is that I absolutely love being able to use social media to showcase my talents and personality. I love making Youtube videos and I love taking selfies. Those two things make me happy. Plus, I get to be myself and still get love from my besties so it all works out in the end 🙂

8) What are some of your top tips to brands for running campaigns? How do you maintain authenticity?

To always be transparent and always let influencers feel great about the brand they are representing or promoting. I think that sometimes brands may get carried away in the financial aspect of things, that they’ll tend to forget about the influencer who is genuinely trying to help them get more of a reach, or at least support them and their goals. It should always be a supportive process all the time. I maintain authenticity by always letting my viewers be aware of my social media networks that I use, letting brands be aware of my contact emails, as well as social media links. Lastly, just maintained professionalism and trying to have my social links, all have the same general photo, as to avoid any risks of inauthenticity. Mostly, to just be myself and to always be one hundred percent real with my viewers/besties!

9) What would your advice be on the importance of quality and original content?

It is extremely important to have quality and original content. Regardless of the platform you are using. For instance, I mostly use Youtube, and on there, quality over quantity is everything! You are potentially going to be noticed by a brand or influencer(s), so it’s important to always strive for quality content 🙂 That doesn’t mean go and splurge on the latest tech. If you don’t have the means, don’t break your bank 🙂 iPhone’s and high quality Androids do just the trick & a simple video editor, like iMovie or Filmora for example, will have your videos snatched! Not to mention, you always want to use your creative juices to come up with fresh, trendy yet engaging content that will have your audience come back for more. In a world where social media is dominant, it becomes harder and harder to be noticed in the sea of other influencers. I believe that in anything, personality and creativity are key 🙂 When it comes down to your Instagram profile, try to take well lit photos and play around with angles and locations 🙂 I’m still learning this myself. Also, it’s good to have a relative theme as well. That helps to attract alot of people too 🙂

10) What do you like best about partnering with brands?

What I like best is being able to expand my networks and work with brands and companies that desire to invest with influencers. Although I am still small, I have been approached by Candy Club as well as others for promotional requests. It’s been really cool to have that opportunity, and I feel like every brand deserves a chance whether small or big. At some point, the big dawgs were once small too 🙂
