Instagram Influencer Spotlight On: Lissette Calveiro @lissettecalv

1) Tell us a little about yourself. What are you doing now and where do you come from?

My name’s Lissette, or LC for short, and I’m a Miami native. My parents are both Latinos born outside of the U.S., migrating from Ecuador and Spain. I work as a publicist and freelance writer, with a focus on healthy living and millennials. On my spare time, catch me snapping photos, joining community fitness classes and finding a new place to brunch.

2) What are your topics of interest? What do you post on Instagram the most?

Most of my content is lifestyle-driven: where I’m eating, places I enjoy and what I’m wearing. I do tend to focus a lot on city life wether that’s a skyline view, quick eats or an #ootd with a local backdrop. I am very health-conscious, so you’ll notice I sprinkle a little wellness from time to time.

3) How did your Instagram name come about?

I joined Instagram as an accident! In 2011, I heard about a “cool app” that let you impose filters onto images in your phone, so I downloaded Instagram. I kept publishing images without knowing, thinking I was simply editing a cool selfie or photo of my surroundings. Little did I know, I established my timeline and grew my audience from there.

4) What are some apps you use to edit your photos? Share with us your photo-editing routine!

Lately I’ve been sticking to VSCO. I like the deep tones and fade effect that give my photos a softer feel despite a lot of colors. I also dabble in Afterlight and Lightroom if I have more time. By the time a photo makes it to Instagram though, I’m adding finishing touches using the app’s settings.

5) Any Instagrammers whom you really like? Which Instagrammer inspires you the most?

I’m a big fan of Miami’s local bloggers. I like that we have a community of influencers that are working to show the best of our city. One of my favorite accounts is @beyondsouthbeach, a blogger that makes a point to showcase Miami finds beyond those in the nightlife, beach party community.

6) If there’s one thing your fellow Instagrammers just gotta try now, what’s it gonna be?

I love using Boomerang and I wish more people did, too! The content we make is very cool but not enough people engage with it – probably because it’s so unfamiliar. Would love to see people getting creative with this platform.

7) What’s your favorite part about being an influencer?

Using my audience to inspire and change behaviors is very rewarding. Aside from creating content that I’m proud of, I’ve often used my platform to share ideas and connect people to brands that are striving to change the world. Knowing I have a minimal role in this lights up my heart.

8) What are some of your top tips to brands for running campaigns? How do you maintain authenticity?

I also work on the other side, as a marketer, and it’s important that brands select people for their relevance instead of the number of followers they have. Even if said person has hundreds of thousands of followers compared to just a couple, it makes a huge difference if you’re reaching out to the person who’s a best fit for the brand. Influencers work hard to curate their audience so we must respect that by offering them things are right for them.

9) What would your advice be on the importance of quality and original content?

It’s important to remember that brands are not only looking to get their message out, they’re also looking for cool content to share. Like any job, you want to put your best foot forward and share quality work. It’s a given, to me, that all content must be original. Inspiration is great but we can’t steal ideas from others to get the job done.

10) What do you like best about partnering with brands?

I really enjoy learning about the brands’ goals for campaigns. I want to know what role in the bigger picture my work is helping toward.
