Instagram Influencer Spotlight On: Kristen Alyssa @krissyaly

1) Tell us a little about yourself. What are you doing now and where do you come from?

I’m a Rojak (I say Rojak because not only do I live in Malaysia, but my parentage goes a little deeper than just a mix of Chinese and Indian). A law student who took half a year off from her second year in law school to embark on a journey in the working world, doing something completely different from what I studied – an internship at Benefit Cosmetics. I sing, I travel around the world and have wondering eyes; forever in search of the little wonders of the world. I’m a fashion and fitness enthusiasts so my feed is mostly my outfits which I pair up to represent me and my style and about feeling good and what I do to keep my mind and body in-check.

2) What are your topics of interest? What do you post on Instagram the most?

Fashion, Fitness, Travel, Flatlays, Books which inspire me, Quotes i live by, people who make my life worth-it and photography.

3) How did your Instagram name come about?

It’s an abbreviation from my first name and middle name – Kristen Alyssa.

4) What are some apps you use to edit your photos? Share with us your photo-editing routine!

I swear by VSCO. I usually take my photos with my DSLR/ my phone and I always use the VSCO camera function. And from all the shots I take, I choose the very best, try on some of my fav filters for it – HB1, HB2 and A4.

5) Any Instagrammers whom you really like? Which Instagrammer inspires you the most?

I’m a huge fan of Hapatime, Ashley Sky and Alexis Ren.

6) If there’s one thing your fellow Instagrammers just gotta try now, what’s it gonna be?

Ice-Noodles. I discovered it while I was roaming around KL City and found it at a small corner of Sungei Wang. It’s delish!

7) What’s your favorite part about being an influencer?

I don’t even consider myself and influencer because I think everyone can call themselves that but if there’s one thing I wanna do in this lifetime, is to inspire people – with my style, my readings, my quotes, my travelgram and basically, my whole feed.

8) What are some of your top tips to brands for running campaigns? How do you maintain authenticity?

Apart from the usual, “Always stay true to yourself”, perhaps I live by learning to mix it up and always having the courage to try things out of your comfort zone until you find your niche and learn how to work with that.

9) What would your advice be on the importance of quality and original content?

To stay true to yourself in a world that’s constantly trying to shape, mould and change you. But also not that no matter how original you’d like to be, originals always end up being copied and that’s where you have to be strong enough to carry on and push through.

10) What do you like best about partnering with brands?

What I like best is the camaraderie that’s created and there’d not only be your ideas and likes but also the other person’s. There’ll be an explosion of creative juices and you’d produce something/content that’ll surprise you.
