Instagram Influencer Spotlight On: Kirsten Diedrick @kirstdeedz

1) Tell us a little about yourself. What are you doing now and where do you come from?

I am a South African artist, makeup artist and model. I have recently returned to South Africa from a trip to Vietnam with hopes of building a brand for myself.

2) What are your topics of interest? What do you post on Instagram the most?

I take a keen interest in body art and travel. I mostly post photographs from photoshoots I’ve been in on my Instagram account. I also post pictures taken while traveling. However, I also have a second account under the user ID @deedz.art where I post all of my artwork.

3) How did your Instagram name come about?

Kirst is just a shortened version of my full name. “Deedz” is a nickname I was given in high school and is a shortened version of my surname which all my friends call me. It just seemed natural to go with @kirstdeedz because that is who I had become known as.

4) What are some apps you use to edit your photos? Share with us your photo-editing routine!

Because I use a lot of photos from professional photoshoots, a lot of the time I don’t do any editing. I’m not into editing a lot so most of the time if I do edit I just use the editing options on Instagram itself.

5) Any Instagrammers whom you really like? Which Instagrammer inspires you the most?

I’m inspired most by @sashatattooing. Other instagrammers that I like are @julietapadros @weirdsonmag @heidibosshard @harisnukem @anhwisle @piakristinexo

6) If there’s one thing your fellow Instagrammers just gotta try now, what’s it gonna be?

They have got to try coconut coffee in Vietnam!

7) What’s your favorite part about being an influencer?

I think as humans we should always inspire one another. I think my favorite thing about being an influencer is just making a difference in someone else’s life, even if it is a small difference.

8) What are some of your top tips to brands for running campaigns? How do you maintain authenticity?

Always stay true to yourself and your aesthetic. Don’t try to copy or emulate another person/brand or lose sight of what you’re all about. Keep your vision in mind and work towards building on what you already have going for you.

9) What would your advice be on the importance of quality and original content?

In order to maintain and build your following you have to remain original and authentic. No one is going to want to see the same posts from five different instagrammers. It’s good to follow trends but you should make it your own and keep within your personal aesthetic.

10) What do you like best about partnering with brands?

I think partnering with brands can pave the way for a very symbiotic relationship. I’m also a very big believer in creative supporting each other and working together to build each other up. A brand could advise an instagrammer on how to build themselves as a brand whilst an instagrammer can give authentic feedback on a brand from a customer’s point of view.
